So I recently got a Brand-New PSP for X-mas and I was pretty happy that it didn't have any dead pixels from what I could tell (or worse, live pixels). But I recently found out that the analog likes to get stuck going left. It's a pretty common occurance and I can get it stuck pretty easily. I even took off the little cover for the stick thinking it might be the cover rubbing against the PSP that was getting it stuck but that didn't help.

Now my question is should I exchange it for another one, or is there some kind of adjustment I could mess with to fix it? How likely am I to get a unit with dead pixels if I exchange it and has anyone else encountered this problem?

Forget about sending it in and getting more pixels, pixels are a litte issue that is easy to get used to. If you send in your psp to sony there is a 100% chance you will get it back will 2.6. If you already have 2.5 or 2.6 you might as well, although, it takes 3-4 weeks once you send it to get it back.

The best thing, that will most likely work, is take it to the store you bought it from and say you won't be satisfyed with your product inless it works properly. They should get you a new one. If that doesn't work you should go in another day when another person is working.

A big lol. That's the best bet when replacing something in a store.

Pop off the analog stick by pulling it off and then clean it with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip.

I had same trouble. Playing pes5 and off they run without me controlling them.
Took mine back to Game and they exchanged it. 2 days later the same thing happened to the replacement, but in a different direction.
I put mine into sleep mode to show the assistant when it was going wrong.
This time I refused a replacement and got my money back. I bet Sony sent out a load of refurb units because of the lack of units before Xmas. I'm waiting now till Easter as I've heard a whisper that the UK are getting white PSP's.
Good luck.

So I returned the PSP and purchased a different unit from a different store. Exact same problem in the exact same direction, brand new out of the box. Now, I only have 1 game to test it with (Need For Speed: Most Wanted 510) but I assume this isn't a problem with the game. Going to keep exchanging/returning them until I get a unit that's not defective.

It happens with mine too, but not in every game, only NFSMW. Seems like almost all of the PSPs that got into stores around christmas have this problem.

Finally got a unit that worked well. The old unit wasn't just NFS:MW cuz when I popped another game in (I believe it was Tokobots to try it out), my character started walking left again >.<

Anyway, I swapped out the PSP at the store again and went to the car, put in NFS:MW, loaded it up and BAM, spinning left again. Curses! However, it was like a freak occurance or something because I haven't been able to get it to reproduce the error anymore and even then after rotating the analog stick around in a circle, it was fixed.

So now I have a working PSP. I haven't noticed any glitches since the first day of using it but yeah, it seems a lot of PSPs had this problem.

Bonus: this new PSP has no dead pixels, unlike the 2nd one I tried. Trust me, dead and live pixels bother me a LOT. >.<
