Full Version: Is the Xbox 360 worth Buying?

In a recent article a source who has worked on the Xbox 360 project for many years has shed some light on a lot of the problems and faults that are surrounding the 360. Unfortunately for the owners the article brought shame to their beloved consoles and proved that most of the faults could have been avoided if a little patience and smarts had been applied.

In the article previously mentioned the source confirmed that the failure rate of the 360’s was around thirty percent. It comes of no surprise that the PS3 and Wii are significantly less, in fact they are extremely low coming in at less that one percent. Most of these failures are the notorious RRoD or Red Ring of Dead which is a direct result of overheating. A good chunk of the problems surrounding the RRoD have been addressed in newer 360 models and Microsoft announced a while ago that they will extend the warranty; full information can be found here. With most of the problems being sorted out by Microsoft it looks like a good time to get your hands on an Xbox 360.

Another factor to consider is cost, if compared to the PS3 the 360 is extremely more cost efficient with the core coming it at $279.99, premium model at 349.99, the elite at 449.99 and the halo model 399.99. If you do some shopping around you are certain to find a good deal. The downside is that Microsoft makes you subscribe to get online play or commonly known as Xbox Live, on the other side of the console wars the PS3 comes ready to use the online play or commonly known as Play Station Network. But wait, if I just forked out all this money what am I going to play?

Well we’ve got the answer, the 360 has the largest and most versatile games list going around and the choices are extravagant. Here are a few games that are getting people buzzing. If you are an RPG freak and like to leave reality behind and become immersed in a world of graphics and watching your surroundings react to your every move? Than Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is your game. How about running around with a gun with a trigger heavy finger firing at everything and anything that moves? Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Or are you the stealth type, keeping to the shadows as you silently stalk your pray? Than Assassin’s Creed is the one you want. None of these taking your fancy than we’ve got one of the best games that ever hit the Xbox 360, Halo 3, not much needs to be said because even if you’ve never picked up a console controller you have heard of Halo and no doubt you heard about it in all its glory. The 360 games can range anywhere from $40 - $70 dollars which isn’t really too steep at all.

After all is said and done the choice is yours but hopefully you haven’t been scarred away with all the hype of the failures surrounding the 360. The problems are being fixed and with a good price and an insane list of games I think it’s the perfect time to buy an Xbox 360.

Nah. I got a 360, it works fine and to me IT is the way to go.
RedPond
So far I like my 360.

I've had a 360 for almost a year now, and I did get the Red Rings of Death. But the games it has on there (as well as the online) to me is worth the probs I had with it.

I agree. That's mostly why I'm stickin with the 360.

It all comes down to what you want. I have a ps3 and I am extremely happy with it. Personally theres nothing on the 360 that interests me besides maybe Gears of War. Other than that I could care less.

Its all about opinion and choice.

As I have said before HOME will change my preference once it ever comes out. But at the moment the 360 is a better system for games and online play by far. Even though I have been playing PS3 more lately.

Microsoft seems to be more reliable then Sony. Yes it has RROD big deal, thats cuz they wanted a year early release for the PS3. If you want a 360 cheap, go to ebay, buy one with the RROD for around 100-180USD and then microsoft will fix it for free. Thats the thing, im glad my 360 got the RROD (i also bought it used) cuz now i have a 3yr warranty.

I think the 360 is better all around, and dont get me wrong, i am a sony fanboy, thats the weird part. I grew up with psone and sega and all that good stuff i just think that 360 is better. Better online play, better specs. Plus the ps3 was a mistake, have you seen how versions there are? thats called bad marketing, they dont know if they should have a chip for Backwards Compatibility (BC) or if they should just emulate it and there constantly changing the HD size and the BC possibilities. But like many have said before, HOME will change everything, including my opinion on the PS3 smile.gif

We are living in a new online world, so sony plz catch up already...and release HOME...

BTW: I PWN ANY OF YOU IN GEARS!!! send me a friend request!

Pretty much , yeah. Don't get me wrong though I might never get a PS3 but I do like Sony. Their products may be more expensive but they're very good quality. Besides, I bought a Sony PSP after all. tongue.gif

It all depends on your taste, I've been wanting a PS3 for quite some time now, but I decided to
get a 360 just for the heck of it and I got to say the online is pretty much worth it.

Yeah, the 360's online is #1. (When it works that is. lol)

I'd say both yes and no, I own both systems but MS has a lot of ups and downs to be honest from a completely unbiased opinion. First of all I dislike the hardware failure percentage even with the current models it's still 10% which is completely unacceptable, this will make my 3rd 360 for me. On the other hand there are still some great titles worth looking into, some which haven't and may not be brought over to the PS3. Such as Dead Rising (which is currently being ported), Gears of War, BioShock (aka System Shock 2), and Lost Odyssey (and maybe Halo if you're really into that kind of game). 360 has A++ online service, though I still like having it be free with my PS3. Overall as many people said it's a preference whatever appeals to you, I see the PS3 as the superior console and something that will truly dominate this year, but I still love my 360 and most if not all the games I have for it.

I partly agree with you. While I think the 360 is superior its only because the online gaming is better. Other than that I'm dissapointed, agreed the way the 360 is built...man I could probably do it better. V.V

Yeh as said their online is A++, but still in my eyes it takes more than great online to make a great console, hence why I think the PS3 is superior, better build, great games, better features, plus HOME will be a big step up and be the final dagger in the 360.

Yeah, if it weren't for the 360's exclusives I probably would have gotten a PS3.

You will like it my friend. It is definatly worth buying. The online is better than PSN (Playstation network) and the Gamerscore feature is fun.
TIGERMOUSE9
It wasn't a good move to put the 360 on the market prior to fixing their problems but in the long run, it may have worked itself out. Althought I only have the PS3 (and a PSP biggrin.gif ) I would still go out an buy a 360 if i had a spare stack of bills around the house.
Nitemare92
Xbox 360 has a lot of awesome deals now ( Which I'm mad about because I bought it before ). But it looks like a lot more games will be coming out for the PS3, so I don't know.
sharoek
yeah i think i'm gonna buy 360 cause it's cheap and most of my friends have it tongue.gif
demonpower55
