Microsoft has cut the price of the Xbox 360 in Japan by 13% in an effort to try and spark interest in the console in Japan, where it has been getting killed by even the old PS2, nevermind the Wii and PS3.

The Xbox 360 will now be on sale in Japan for 34,800 yen for the premium console while the Xbox 360 Core will be sold for 27,800 yen or around $240.

The 20GB Premium Xbox 360 bundle though will include two free games, Forza 2 and Viva Pinata.

Microsoft is hoping that by cutting the price of the console in Japan and also packing in a few free games that they may be able to build up momentum heading into the holiday season. The Xbox 360 week in and week out in Japan is literally destroyed by every other console in terms of sales, even last-gen consoles. Whether the price drop will help or not will remain to be seen, but it surely cannot hurt any.
