I don't think they should, I hate the idea of having to join the military. And besides, aren't there already enough people joining up voluntarily?
NyghtcrawleR
I dont think that joining the military is bad in any way, but they dont need to draft anyone. They have enough recruits and if its voluntary, people are more willing to fight.

Oh and this topic is really random.

I wasn't trying to spam or anything. And I wasn't saying it was bad to join the military, but I think that drafting is bad. I'd hate to have to go overseas and fight.

Um, is random a bad thing?
Bomb
I don't see random as a bad thing. Just weird.

Anyway back on topic.

Plenty of people are willing to join the army, it shouldn't be implemented again. However, if your country is under attack, you would favor the drafting thingy because you either go to war and possible die, or lose the war and get attacked and die. Also consider if the cause is worth it, if it is something small that is not worth going to war for, drafting shouldn't be used.

If America's ever under attack, then I'll move to Canada.

Yup, you said it right there. I'm hoping to go next year after I finish my degree.

gee nobody said yes yet.... surprise..

what a silly question, do you really expect anybody to WANT to be conscripted? come on

Morover, what no one has picked up on yet is that maybe some people do not beleive in the cause. I mean, for example, a solider does his job- they all do. However, most have said (from what ive seen) that they do not beleive in why their in Iraq but they are their to do their job. Therefore, i simply think that perhaps people should be able to decide what they do, if they join the army or whatever- after all people have other choices in life and this should be one of them.
Further more, if America was under attack then its obvious that many other countrys would come to their aid. Such as my country the United Kingdom...

I know you said that from what youve seen, but I dont think that this is the case that MOST soldiers dont believe in the cause in Iraq. I know a few people in the military and they all believe in the cause much more than half of America.
la_faker_81
They won't reinstate this until WW3. right now America and all the other countrys involved already has troops over there so its not like they are short on troops. However if WW3 happens, im afraid the government will come knocking on ya door because your country will need every soldier they can get.
NyghtcrawleR
If theres ever a WWIII, probably not gonna need as many soldiers as there will be an absurd amount of nukes going off. Meaning everyone dies, therefore no soldiers.

hopefully there never will be a need to draft. theres usually enough volunteers

So it seems that the majority of users who have replied resent the draft. I know we dont have one here, and have not for a huge amount of time. This topic dont partially pertain to me i can still share my view. Like i said, i do strongly believe everyone should have the right to join up. Plus, that way you guys get the best, not just Tom, dick and harry but those who know they can do it.

exactly, Im just an accountant from NJ, what the heck do I know about bearing arms except for what I've seen in movies which actually is all about a one man "rambo" of sorts instead of real life team work and getting the mission completed with the least amount of casualties as possible.
