Can you get sued for downloading them?

technically yes unless you own the game. however i think there is something that allows for outdated software to be allowed. which is why i dont think they go after rom sites with nes, snes and sega games. i may be wrong

Actually technically speaking, no roms are actually legal even if you own the game. But for older systems, they could care less because theyre arent making any money off of those systems anymore anyway.

sorry i was mixing up something i read about cel phone technology and it being ok to alter the celphone software as long as its out of date technology. anyways i still see a rom being the same as having a copy of something, and if you own it you have the right to have a copy for personal use. such as mp3s or back up dvds and games. and nintendo still sells copies of games through the wii but yet they only go after gba and newer rom sites. ive always heard roms were legal as long as you owned the original. but like i said i am not 100% sure.

You would think that, but you cant. Why? Couldnt say exactly. Mostly because of big companies being greedy and thinking everyone is going to pirate their stuff, but thats not true.

People & rom sites say that but its not true. Do I care though? No, because nobody is going to go after you because of roms, its not worth their time.

The legality of roms (illegal):

And like I said, just download them. Its just the point I'm making. I personally have a whole bunch of roms on my computer anyway.

good info in that wikipedia. basically the usa is retarded. i say you should be able to have backups of everything you buy. or the video game companies should be required to send you a new one for free if it gets messed up as long as you send them the origianl in some form or another.

anyways just download them. no one cares for the most part. its only the music and movie associations that are hardcore going after people as of now.
