Well this is my first time making a "help me" topic. Here it goes. Let me know if you need clarification.

I know someone who has a 8gig mem stick (yes, he is richer than me) and he has a problem transferring movies to his PSP. He uses some kind of PSP software to rip the movie and transfer it to the PSP and it works with his 2 gig.

I don't have an 8 gig so I was just wondering if any of you came upon this problem or if you have any way of circumventing it. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Really? It works his 2 gig. What kind of software are you using to transfer the movies?

Its okay that you don't have an answer, thanks for replying anyway. We're all in the same boat.

have you guys tried manually copying the movies over instead of using software? just open the psp in my computer and put the movie in the VIDEO folder in the root of the mem stick

Juggler, what firmware does your friend have on his PSP?
ZeroX24
The PSP isn't fully compatible with the 8GB sticks. Sony has yet to put out a firmware to support memory sticks over 4GB.

i also wanna have one of those, my 4 gb is about to run out of space... tongue.gif

I'd just buy another 4GB if I were you.

I'm not too specifically sure but last time I saw him he had the official Sony firmware 2.8 or 3.? Yeah, he's not too technical, I don't think he's good at installing stuff manually so I'll have to find him an easy installer.
I'll probably see him tomorrow (party) and ask for sure.

As for dtvhn21, it would be cheaper to buy another 4gig but like you said, swapping would suck.

Thanks for replying,

I can't remember the exact firmware, but it was around 3.00 (not sure if it was 2.81, or 3.10, or something like that), that 8GB memory stick support was added.
So I'm guessing that his firmware only supports up to 4GB.

Even for the official? Does the official Sony FW still have those MNV001 (mispell?) folders? or does it have a VIDEO folder? Yeah, I just checked with him, he's in the 2.XX range. I think its time for an update. I wonder if installing custom FW and making a VIDEO folder could solve the problem. Thanks for the help.

That depends on the firmware version, and the type of video.
And yes, even older versions of official firmware doesn't fully support 8GB (e.g. 1.50 only supports up to 4GB).

Installing 3.40 OE-A (or a newer custom firmware) should help, yes.

That quote just pwned my friend's logic. Yeah, I normally just drag the videos to the VIDEO folder on my PSP.
Whats the quickest way to take a 2.XX FW PSP to a 3.5 (1 or 2) M33? I would love to do it myself, but if it bricks, I don't want to be liable. LOLOL LMFAO. No seriously, I don't.

With Pandora's Battery you can always unbrick your friends PSP.
The quickest (maybe only) route is to downgrade to 1.50, then install 3.52 M33.

Wouldn't I have to buy another battery?
Downgrading to 1.5 sounds all right. Is there any easy installers for the process? I don't mind doing it manually, but I'll have to look over some guides as a refresher since its been a month or so since I updated & longer before that.
Thanks for the links, they'll definitely come in handy.

No, you could use his battery, then restore it afterwards.

There aren't really "Easy Installers" as such.
But I can find you a guide if you know the exact version you need to downgrade from.
