Hi krazygamer, and welcome to PSP-Spot! smile.gif

To be able to play ISOs of games off your memory stick, you need to get a PSP with homebrew (unofficial software) capability.
In order of official firmware version preference, this would be:
- 1.50 (or 1.00)
- 1.51 to 2.80
- 2.81 to 3.50 (as long as you have a Lumines UMD)
- 2.81 to 3.03 (as long as you have an unpatched GTA:LCS UMD, unlikely)
If you get one that is above 1.50, you need to downgrade to 1.50 and then install custom firmware.

Custom firmware is a modified version of the official firmware which allows ISOs to be loaded and played.

So basically, try to get a PSP with firmware 2.80 or below and then you'll be able to do just about everything with your PSP!

When you're on custom firmware, all you have to do is put the ISO files in "ms:\ISO\".
(a folder called "ISO" in the root of your memory stick)
Then the games should appear in the Game section of the XMB and can be run as normal.

No, but there's 3.40 OE-A and 3.51 M33 custom firmware; with which you can play games that require up to 3.40 and 3.51 respectively.

Yes, with OE or M33 custom firmwares you can.

As many as can fit on your memory stick!

Sure; I've got a few links that might be useful.
You might also want to check the FAQ section.

When the PSP is fully bricked it cannot be fixed; it is broken permanently.
The only possible ways of fixing it are to change the motherboard or get a modchip (both expensive).
But sometimes it is "semi-bricked" and if you have custom firmware, you can fix it via Recovery Mode.

3.51 M33 is the highest custom firmware to date.

You need to have 1.50 firmware.
But if you have 2.80 or below you can downgrade to 1.50
And with a Lumines UMD, you can downgrade from 3.50 to 1.50.

3.50 is OK, just don't upgrade to 3.51 or 3.52 or you probably won't be able to get homebrew for a long while.
If you format the memory stick using the option on the PSP it should generate the folders for you.

do i need luminiss to stay in the psp after i downgrade and use custom firmware??

No, you only need it for the downgrade, once you're on 1.50 (then custom firmware), you don't need it any more.

how do u check the firmware of a new 1 while itz in the box new??

Check the letter on the side of the box; it should give some indication.

Where it says something like:
PSP-1003
220-240V
WS259 H
The single letter (H in this case) gives the most important information -
A to G: 1.50 to 2.01 (not TA-082)
H, I: 2.50 to 2.60 (could be TA-082)
J, K: 2.70 to 2.71 (almost certainly TA-082)
L to N: 2.81 to 3.03 (definitely TA-082+)
O to R: 3.10 to 3.40 (TA-082/TA-086)

The part before that single letter can also give an indication of the motherboard:
WS259: probably not a TA-082
SS259: probably a TA-082

Here's a photo if you can't find the letter: http://www.maxconsole.net/content_img/psp_version.jpg

But none of this is completely guaranteed (it's normally quite good though).
And the motherboard version isn't that important any more.

What do you mean by "my files"?
If you still have your original memory stick then you can just put that in your new PSP and none of the files should have changed.

You still need an "ISO" folder in the root of your memory stick, yes. (i.e. "ms:\ISO\")
Just create it yourself it it isn't there.

All 3 games will show up under "Game" in the XMB and you can choose between them.

I'm not sure if you can. You might want to try an app with a nicer GUI.

Not with custom firmware; you can play ISOs directly from the XMB (without DevHook).

wats an XMB, how do u put NO UMD'S on, and do u hav a 2.81 - 1.50 downgrader??? I just got a new 1 smile.gif

XMB is the PSP main menu.
You turn No-UMD on in Recovery Mode (if you have custom firmware).
If you have 2.81, you will need to use one of the following:
- the 3.03 downgrader, which requires an unpatched GTA:LCS UMD (with the 2.00 update)
3.03 downgrader: http://www.psp-spot.com/forums/index.php?s...mp;#entry225974
- the 3.50 downgrader, which requires a Lumines UMD

You need to use WinRAR (or similar), and extract the ".001" file; it should automatically combine the rest together.

if i want to go on wifi and the game says it needs to download and install a patch, will that effect the custom firmware??

Which game is it?
Someone else on here did it for one game (can't remember the name), and they said it worked fine (without affecting the custom firmware).

That sounds like the same game I saw someone do it for.
I think it should work (and not affect your custom firmware).

QUOTE(wizkid0436 @ Aug 6 2007, 06:02 AM) *

The root is "ms:\"; so if your memory stick has drive letter "F", then the root would be "F:\" (not inside any folder).
You need to put ISO/CSO files in "ms:\ISO\" (a folder called ISO in the root).

Is this with a UMD or with an ISO?
If it's an ISO it might just be bad, and you might need to get another one.

Since you are altering flash0, then yes, you can brick when changing a game boot intro video thing.
But it's more likely that you will semi-brick, and still be able to fix it via Recovery Mode.
