1) Download the 2.00 update if your PSP doesn't already have the 2.0 firmware on it. Make sure the update is 2.00 and NOT 2.01 or 2.50. Any 2.0 update is fine as long as it didn't come from a UMD(US, EU, and JP all work). I don't feel that I should provide a download for it here as it's Sony-copyrighted.
2) Download the 1.50 update.
3) Download MPH's downgrader.
4) Unpack the 2.00 update if it was in a ZIP or RAR file. You will end up with some sort of folders or simply an EBOOT.PBP file. If you have folders find the EBOOT.PBP file within them.
5) Attach your PSP to your computer. Enable USB by going to Settings, then USB Connection. If you have Windows XP a friendly window will pop up asking what you want to do with the drive. Say you want to explore it. Make a folder on your memory stick called PSP. It probably already exists. Make a folder called GAME inside the PSP folder. It might already exist too. Make a folder inside the GAME folder called UPDATE. Copy the EBOOT.PBP file into this folder.
6) Get out of USB mode on your PSP. Scroll over to game, then hit Memory Stick, then select the update. Make sure your PSP has over 50% battery and is plugged in.
7) Follow the on-screen instructions.
8) Unpack the MPH downgrader.
9) Put your PSP into USB mode. Browse to your Memory Stick. Copy the file called "h.bin" and "index.dat" into your Memory Stick(NOT IN A FOLDER). Then go into the PSP folder. Make a folder called PHOTO. Copy the file called overflow.tif into this folder(depending on where you got your MPH downgrader it may have unpacked a folder named PSP for you. If so just drag the PSP folder to your Memory Stick).
10) Get out of USB Mode. Scroll over to Photo and hit Memory Stick. Odd things will happen on your PSP's screen. Wait a few seconds, then hold up the power switch on your PSP to restart it.
11) Watch your PSP start up again. Go into the USB Connection.
12) Unpack your 1.50 update and copy the EBOOT.PBP just as you did for the 2.0 update. Please, please, please make sure this EBOOT.PBP did NOT come off of a UMD disc and does not contain the word Ac!d anywhere near it. These EBOOTs will break your PSP. Thankfully 99% of EBOOTs are reliable, and there's little need to be worried. The region(US, EU, JP) doesn't matter.
13) Run it. Follow the on-screen instructions. The updater will get to 99%, then give an error. Don't worry, this is normal. Wait a few seconds, then hold up the power switch to reboot the PSP. Your PSP will display the usual animation, then a blue screen in many languages. Simply press and hold O for a few seconds(it takes awhile sometimes) and you will be asked to set up your PSP.

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS:
No text in updater to 2.00. This happens if you've used a version changer that's buggy. Please just go to Settings->System->Restore Default Settings and follow the instructions. The 2.0 updater will now work.

Welcome to the wonderful world of 1.50!

Here would be a good place to go now:

just downloaded the downgrader from this site and norton found the psp brick trojan straight away any ideas it also found it in the one i used to downgrade my ( EU )psp still any ideas huh.gif
EBear
I got the downgrade the day it came out and now norton says its the PSPbrick. . . yeah right. This is Sony's way of minimizing the damage that they will face by thousands of systems now being able to run homebrew.

There was (to my knolage) one utill / app that did brick the PSP.
THIS IS NOT THAT APP / UTILL

However, Norton got wind of this rouge app and decided (quite rightfully) to add the detection to its virus database.

Thing is, Norton looks for something that would alter the PSP Firmware.
This Downgrader Alters the psp firmware also (but in a good way)
Norton cant tell the diffrence and reports it as BAD just to be safe wink.gif

bottom line is this..
There is something out there called PSPbrick
This downgrader is not PSPbrick.

Whenever I try to upgrade to 2.0, it just fails back out to the screen with one of those 8xxxxxxxx errors, saying the game could not be started. The system is fully charged and plugged in, but it just won't run. Any ideas? I have a 1.5 system and have never used a version changer.

-EDIT-

Nevermind, I figured it out. Apparently, I named my update folder "Update", when it really needed to be named "UPDATE". Wow, now that is picky.
Joyst1ck
Shit, it really can't get any easier that this...
DocSam
Got a question...
What if I upgraded to 2.0 with the GTA UMD?
Is there no way to downgrade to 1.5 now? I attempted it last night and it failed.
Thanks!
ns9
You should still be able to downgrade
DocSam
Thanks for responding.
I've tried numerous times:
After I've fooled the PSP into thinking it's 1.00, I go to the game menu to run the upgrade and it tells me there is a corrupt file where the upgrader to 1.5 should be.
Please help.
ns9
That is completely wrong. You use the 2.00 to 1.5 downgrader. There is no need to fool the psp into thinking it has firmware 1.00.
kouji134
um.. people i have a prob whenever i try to change from 2.01 to 2.00 i get

To everyone who is is wondering why they can't downgrade from v.2.1, the reason is quite simply because sony are a bunch of merchant bankers mad.gif They've made this version even more difficult to crack, and to rub salt into the psp users wound it dowsn't offer anything new! Ive scoured the internet looking for a downgrader and everywhere ive looked ive been told it aint happenin. However there may a downgrader from v 2.5 to 2.0 coming up soon. i hope so, im desparate to use homebrew! Hope this has been helpful.
ns9
certain homebrew is able to run on v2.01-v2.05.

disregard found the 2.0 update
Jambino
Whats PSPbrick?
synoxis
PSP brick is something that loads using the overflow.tif exploit (like the downgrader) and bricks it. Rendering your PSP as useful as a brick.
coolguywoz
ok, to clear somethings up, try googleing firmware 2.0, and most likely no, there will not be a downgrader for 2.1 and above for certain reasons, but as you might have already known, there are some very good programs and games (homebrewed ) that are avalible to be played at 2.1 and above via GTA LCS, yes you need to have gta.
darkspikes497
does it brick

It won't brick your PSP but, it's really hard to figure out how to put your emulators and roms in your PSP using GTA(Grand Theft Auto:Liberty Cities)
