1) Download the 2.00 update if your PSP doesn't already have the 2.0 firmware on it. Make sure the update is 2.00 and NOT 2.01 or 2.50. Any 2.0 update is fine as long as it didn't come from a UMD(US, EU, and JP all work). I don't feel that I should provide a download for it here as it's Sony-copyrighted.
2) Download the 1.50 update.
3) Download MPH's downgrader.
4) Unpack the 2.00 update if it was in a ZIP or RAR file. You will end up with some sort of folders or simply an EBOOT.PBP file. If you have folders find the EBOOT.PBP file within them.
5) Attach your PSP to your computer. Enable USB by going to Settings, then USB Connection. If you have Windows XP a friendly window will pop up asking what you want to do with the drive. Say you want to explore it. Make a folder on your memory stick called PSP. It probably already exists. Make a folder called GAME inside the PSP folder. It might already exist too. Make a folder inside the GAME folder called UPDATE. Copy the EBOOT.PBP file into this folder.
6) Get out of USB mode on your PSP. Scroll over to game, then hit Memory Stick, then select the update. Make sure your PSP has over 50% battery and is plugged in.
7) Follow the on-screen instructions.
8) Unpack the MPH downgrader.
9) Put your PSP into USB mode. Browse to your Memory Stick. Copy the file called "h.bin" and "index.dat" into your Memory Stick(NOT IN A FOLDER). Then go into the PSP folder. Make a folder called PHOTO. Copy the file called overflow.tif into this folder(depending on where you got your MPH downgrader it may have unpacked a folder named PSP for you. If so just drag the PSP folder to your Memory Stick).
10) Get out of USB Mode. Scroll over to Photo and hit Memory Stick. Odd things will happen on your PSP's screen. Wait a few seconds, then hold up the power switch on your PSP to restart it.
11) Watch your PSP start up again. Go into the USB Connection.
12) Unpack your 1.50 update and copy the EBOOT.PBP just as you did for the 2.0 update. Please, please, please make sure this EBOOT.PBP did NOT come off of a UMD disc and does not contain the word Ac!d anywhere near it. These EBOOTs will break your PSP. Thankfully 99% of EBOOTs are reliable, and there's little need to be worried. The region(US, EU, JP) doesn't matter.
13) Run it. Follow the on-screen instructions. The updater will get to 99%, then give an error. Don't worry, this is normal. Wait a few seconds, then hold up the power switch to reboot the PSP. Your PSP will display the usual animation, then a blue screen in many languages. Simply press and hold O for a few seconds(it takes awhile sometimes) and you will be asked to set up your PSP.
POSSIBLE PROBLEMS:
No text in updater to 2.00. This happens if you've used a version changer that's buggy. Please just go to Settings->System->Restore Default Settings and follow the instructions. The 2.0 updater will now work.
Welcome to the wonderful world of 1.50!
Here would be a good place to go now:
