Here's my situation:

My internet goes into my Modem/Router combo.

The family PC is hooked up via ehternet [wired down].

My PC is via WLAN, my PC is hooked up to my Wired down router hooked up to my other PCs running various OSes, Linux included.

Can I get my internet on all those PCs, I think the Windoze sharing only lets PCs w/ WinXP go on...

Is there an app I can run in my system tray to share the internet so ANY PC w/ Ethernet

I wanna get internet on my other PCs but I dont wanna get a wireless device for them... sad.gif
Ash
u know it would be beter to get a wireless router for all of them its easier for me

Yeah why not get wireless for the same cost as regular internet.

Yeah why not get wireless for the same cost as regular internet.

ther is no differnce between internet and wireless interent dude, u can make any internet wireless by just buying a router

and i dont quite understand wat yr trying to do, are u trying to connect yr other PCs to the internet thru 1 PC? if u are am not sure if u can share internet thru a windows PC onto other PCs with anything else but windows on em, sumthing to do with the windows network manager

Either buy sum wireless usb/PCI devices or buy sum ethernet cables
Sledge
Sooo lost. If your modem has a router built in why would you need to use ICS? How many ports does the router have, how many PCs need to have internet, are these computers on your local network? If your PCs are hooked to a router that is part of your modem then u do not need any apps, u just have to setup internet on those PCs, i think, i really don't know anymore, my head hurts...

"My PC is via WLAN, my PC is hooked up to my Wired down router hooked up to my other PCs running various OSes, Linux included." I think u r saying that ur PC is connected to the modem via Ethernet but hooked to the other PCs via wireless (WLAN) but I don't know how

i dont wanna waste money on adapters for all these pcs, they are old (one of which doesnt even have usb!) i have wireless on my p3. my other pcs dat i wanna connect are plugged into my p3...
Sledge
p3? multiple network cards?

i fink he means Pentium 3 computer. an if u are connecting yr other comps thru 1 comp u must have alot of ethernet ports on it
Ash
well the easiest option is like what i and everybody else said get a wirless router or you can get lots of ethernet cords and hook them all to your computers

yeah, it mite not b the cheapest but will save alot of messing around an bother
RealG187
The P3 [yes Pentium 3] had only one ethernet port, but it is plugged into my second wired down router..
Sledge
Not trying to be a smart ass just trying to catch up to you. If the P3 and other computers are connected to a second wired down router I don't think ICS will help in any way. If I understand u want to take all PCs hooked to the second router and have them use the P3's internet connection. I doubt this is possible and if it is it's over my head. Are the 2 routers close enough where u can use the uplink port to physically connect the two?
RealG187
The PCs are downstairs and the wireless router with the internet is upstairs, I need a way to get them to get internet without getting each PC its own wireless adapter. My P3 has one and I want to use the internet from there on my other PCs, since my P3 has both wireless internet coming in and ethernet into the PCs I want internet on, I wanna use it as a hub/bridge.gateway what ever i wanna call it...

so your saying u want some computers on etherent eand some wireless?
RealG187
My internet is plugged into wireless and not my ehternet.

My old PCs are plugged into ehternet and not wireless.

My P3 is plugged into both and I want to join the connections!
thomas33665588
u have the most confusing ways of explaining things m8!!
Rite so...
1. u have a wireless router which yr P3 connects to using a wireless adapter?? (plz answer yes or no)
2. u also have a ethernet port on yr P3?? (plz answer yes or no)
3. the other 2 PC's have ethernet ports on??? (plz answer yes or no and state wat OS are on the other PC's)
4. U want to connect yr other 2 PC's to the internet by connecting them to yr P3?? (plz answer yes or no)

just to get things straight
RealG187
yeah, I want internet on the old computers and use the P3 as a hub!
thomas33665588
so am assuming u have at least 2 ethernet ports on yr P3 an wat OS is on the P3 and other 2 comps?
Ash
hey dude i might have your solution, i have just have a plain dsl modem, hooked up to that is a wireless router so i could be wireless. It also has 4 other ethernet slots so if u have multiple computers that dont have wirless but ethernet slots u just get a ethernet cord, plug it into one of the slots and then u have internet on a computer u plugged in and i dont think u need to setup anything like input any data or anything

so its basiccly a wirless hub is what im saying
RealG187
@ash, you are saying to get an other wireless router so it will go like this.

Internet in upstairs into the modem/router. It then goes to the second wireless router wirelessly. Once in the second wireless router the internet will go out through thatg routers ethernet to my PCs problem solved???
Sledge
Holy crap. The above idea might work if you are putting the second wireless router downstairs and eliminating the downstairs wired router all together.

I think you could also use a access point on the downstairs router to form a wireless bridge to the upstairs wireless router.
Ash
well im kinda confused by where ur computers are at and what not but here is what im trying to say

Interent Modem------Wireless Modem
and then
Wireless Modem(with etherent cords)-----your other computers that dont have wireless but have ethernet ports

i will try to find a pic for u of what i mean

See how theres more than one ethernet slots? those can connect to other computers using a ethernet cord to allow the other computers that dont have wireless to have internet connection
thomas33665588
Ash i fink u've cracked it smile.gif well done m8 coz i cudnt figure it out
Ash
and realG it cost like 60 for the router, and u get wirless also. i have my ps2,xbox,imac, and right now my laptop hooked up to it and its great
RealG187
SO the second router will do what my I wanted my P3 to do?

Will it work in reverse? Do you have to set anything up?
Ash
well thers a program thats very short that will help u set it up, it comes with the router and tehres a pic with it but i will describe what it means and all u do is set up the the wires and u activate it somehow and youre done

Wall outlet-->Regular Dsl modem(or i think it said cable too)--->Wireless modem--->to whatever to plz
bububang
well... its so easy... connect the wifi..

enable the LAN on both pc..

Right click on LAN > Properties
Click check on sharing internet connection

Then its done.

There is another way if this not work... use bridge..

But i never test it using bridge on LAN.. i only try share via wifi on bridge
