The boomerang controller... revealed?

Teiyu Goto, creative force behind the design of the PlayStation 3, once again decided to let the public know where some ideas and things came from. This time, he's going to explicate the creation of the Boomerang controller that was panned by many, now missed by some. Last time he talked about the usage of the Spider-Man font, so check that out if you haven't yet.
Goto said this about the creation of the controller: "Quite frankly, we had set aside the ergonomic aspect in favour of the image it conjured up. We wanted to present an avant-garde model for the show, running a risk of being criticised." As most of you know, they were. Pretty heavily. What did Goto think about the controller, personally? "It was very futuristic visually, but practically speaking you only had to hold it to realise how it compared to the Dual Shock 2." Probably true. Anyone out there actually get to hold the Boomerang?
Finally, why the re-adoption of the Dual Shock 2 model, minus the shock and plus the SixAxiS: "The desire for change for there, but the legacy of the PlayStation was stronger - the slightest change to the controller could annoy players and the risk wasn't worth taking. Also PS2 and PS3 provide backwards compatibility; the ergonomics should be the same when you play games from the previous generation but without having to bring out the 'wired' controllers." That makes sense. I wouldn't like trying to play an N64 game with the GameCube controller (for example).

I can see that being good for racing games only, it would "feel" like a wheel in your hands.
Crap for a bit of fps as i think it would annoy the hell out of you and give you an ache in the wrists.
Personnaly I love the new controllers I like the way there light and I'm used to the setup

I dont know. I think like it says, you need to hold it to see. It could be pretty comfortable and probably better for the wrists with its curves which are more natural to the body then straight lines.

As I stated in another post I think they should release it anyway for the people who want one or at least to try it out.

thats true nyght. i like the boomerang actually. do you see the picture where its in the guys hand.
i hope they realese it. and its funny because alot of people are complaining about the current ps3 controller.
i have another topic where there are a bunch different designs of controllers. i made that topic to prove a piont. how that people are always complaining about the current of the controller but everyone is saying that its the best controller out of all the designs.

Me likey I loved the boomerang idea I thought it was crisp fresh not something we've seen for Sony's 3 generations of PlayStation consoles. I think it would have been really neat to hold and I think it really does have that future esque look to it. And I agree with Nyght like the old sayin goes "don't knock it till you try it." I think this should be released there will always be the hardcore fans who like the design they've used for 3 generations. But I can imagine if people took the time (were this to be released) and used it they would enjoy it and the experience would be greater all the better around. I personally can't wait till I get my PS3 as it is voted to be Sony's last generation of consoles (sad sad I love Sony) and I say if this is the end Sony ended with the biggest bang to date!

i think it looks ok .. its deff. a different approach to a controller ill give it that .. and yes it was the original design but i remember hearing that sony wanted to stick to the simplicity of their original controllers

Was that the one they showed in their first concept? It looked cool for me but many didn't seem to like it.

Yeah the boomerang was the original concept they showed.
