Well i currently have the firmware 3.03 and all. I modded before on my friends PSP, i did it for him but nothing like extreme. a few homebrew on his 2.7 and thats all. But i want to have a custom firmware or something for possible ISO Playings etc. Just an example. I have an extreme fear of bricking this puppy because i dont want to buy a new psp anytime soon. Explain to me what Modded firmware can do etc. and what is the recovery mode etc? I saw a video on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5D9VW_H4XQ Check it out and read the side note by the creator, he bricked even on custom firmware. Please tell me how safe it is etc, even if it works great for you

Firstly you wil need to downgrade to 1.5 before you can install a OE firmware so search for a tutorial
Secondly when your on a custom firmware it is safer than a real firmware! Because if anything goes wrong you can recover back to 1.5!
Seriously look into it because it is well worth getting.
Dont even worry about bricking because its almost impossible.

Well, can you explain exactly how i would do this? I mean how is it safer than actual firmware? And what do you mean ''if anything goes wrong''. So if i DID brick it, i could recover it? So its impossible to lose? And is a 128mb Memory stick a good starter? lol i gotta get a new one, someone stole my 1gb

Alright, custom firmware has a recovery menu allowing you to access usb and downgrade to 1.5 if you DO brick. which is highly unlikely.
Updating to custom firmware does the SAME thing as updating to a sony firmware.

So if i did manage to brick a custom firmware, i could recover it 100%? And how does it work through USB if you cant get to anything if its just a black screen and nothing else? That brings me to my next question, what firmware should i use and where can i get it?

When you boot you hold R and it brings you to a different menu completely different from the XMB. This will not work on FULL bricks, but on almost all system errors, it will.
You should use 3.03 OE-C imo.
But first you need to worry about downgrading.

their is still a slight possible chance of bricking but if i were u just downgrade to 1.5 then to 3.03 oec trust me its worth it

Yeah you need to take a step back and concentrate on DOWNGRADING first then worry about custom firmware. Downgrading from 3.03 is quite a process. Make sure you have everything ready and read all the read me's before you continue. Once you are on 1.5......WELCOME TO THE UNDERGROUND and your psp is going to come alive!!!!

You can simply find the downgrader and tutorial for 3.03W in this site, just do a search and remember to read the post regarding what people are experiencing with the downgrader. The most important part is to get a unpatched copy of GTA: LCS UMD which is needed as a part of the downgarding process. There's possibility to BRICK your PSP while downgrading your PSP to 1.5 so you really need to follow the instruction given carefully and Downgrade at your own risk. The 128MB memory stick is not really good for using an OE FW as some of the iso/cso games are simply reach to 1.8 GB, therefore I suggest that you need at least a 2GB memory stick. Good Luck.

i did my psp myself,from 1.81 to 3.03 to 3.03 HEN to 1.5 to 3.03 OE-C.
i was worried about doing it,but i read the instructions a couple of times.it went ok.
just make sure you understand the instructions before you do it.
and it does make the psp into a whole new animal.
