i was wondering is there any other way to increase the wifi range of the psp other than replacing the antenna with a high gain antenna??

I know of nothing you can do the PSP to boost it. I'v got a Linksys Wireless range expander to increase the range of my whole network. You can also use a Linsys WAP54G as a repeater. Of course it would work best if your wireless router was a Linksys

802.11b was the first widely accepted wireless networking standard, followed (somewhat counterintuitively) by 802.11a and 802.11g. 802.11b and 802.11g standards use the 2.40 GHz (gigahertz) band, operating (in the United States) under Part 15 of the FCC Rules and Regulations. Because of this choice of frequency band, 802.11b and 802.11g equipment can incur interference from microwave ovens, cordless telephones, Bluetooth devices, and other appliances using this same band. Licensed amateur radio operators may operate 802.11b/g devices under Part 97 of the FCC Rules and Regulations, allowing increased power output but not allowing any commercial content or encryption.Typical indoor range is 30 m (100 ft) at 11 Mbit/s and 90 m (300 ft) at 1 Mbit/s
Release Date Op. Frequency Data Rate (Typ) Data Rate (Max) Range (Indoor)
October 1999 2.4 GHz 6.5 Mbit/s 11 Mbit/s ~30 meters (~98 ft)
this isnt G/A but b, its all right but the speed and distance suck as we all know if trying to pull a signal from neighbor! LOL, but me i just removed my case and extened my antenna externally with a PID cable connected to the wireless sync card and drilled a 1/16 th of an inch hole in the side, feed it through and wraped it around the entire case in the grove where the two sides connect.
i suggest that not just anyone open there case and start poking around, iv been A+ certified and feild trained in not F$*#ing up electrical componets with ESD( electrostatic discharge )
only takes 30 watts to fry a board, when u touch somthing mettal and u see that lill zap of electritcy thats about 30,000 watts SO B VERY CAREFULL, and always ground ur self, and the most important thing u should do is alwayres READ THE MANULE if u can find one, i know sony is a lil bitch when it comes to letting customers have field serivce repair manules for there products( sonys way of controling hardware hacking)
but there out there if u google real hard. lol,
but sledge u have a very good point in increacing the rang through external wi-fi extenders/repeaters, but they can be around 50$ for an el-chepo, but in my oppion they can sometimes be a curse then a blessing when it comes to wi-fi trouble on ur network, a DRAFT N brouter could in theary incresse the 802.11b network for incresed input/output, or use a MIMO router that allows multi in multi out signals from the same device,, as of right now im tyring to get the USB port to be used as a LAN service by placing a wireless usb card with mini adapter to boost it up to wirless g at the least. but so far no luck,

well,i was thinking of walking arnd while using the browser, but at hm is not the prob, itz when im outside..the signal is always below 50%..thats bad..so i was hoping to have a longer range from the psp instead of the router..free wireless zone is always giving me bad low % signals..

in my experience with my D-Link router, i can still get full speed from a signal as weak as 25%, so 50% isn't necessarily bad, as long as you still stay connected. what kind of router do you have at your home, i don't think i could be of much if any help with the free access points, but i we knew what you are working with i might be able to make some suggestions.

i do have a damn good soldering skills...haha..,.joking..now my i remove my psp's antenna,cz i dont have a reason for it coz the signal strength is still the same with n without the antenna..anyway,my router is the linksys (the most common for my country)..but it support "g"..
i always go at 233mhz coz to save batt, more than 4hrz,sometime i even use 133mhz..
the psp antenna written "b" on the soldering board so i assume itz a wireless "b" antenna,so i was hoping if i could use a "g" antenna, the range could increase...but it cant...
