Larry Probst, head of Electronic Arts, has told Newsweek the PSP may be relaunched in 2007 in a slimmer, cheaper form. Probst said he was hopeful for a PSP with "a new form factor that's smaller than the existing unit, at a lower price, and hopefully that price is $100 lower. It would not be hugely surprising if [Sony] had that lower priced unit at $149 and then a more fully-featured upscale unit that retails at $249 or $299. That's pure speculation." A budget PSP to go alongside budget PSP games and cheap PSOne downloads?

Although it would probably be successful for the PSP, I wouldn't be too happy having already bought a PSP last year.

QUOTE(Don Corleone @ Mar 11 2007, 09:18 AM)

During a GDC appearance, Sony PSP senior product manager John Koller continued to thwart off rumors that a redesign is the works. It seems that Sony is particularly interested in denying plans to reduce the handheld's overall size, especially its screen. The current strategy is to stay the course; to generate interest in the existing model. Which means? You guessed it: tapping into some of that unused real estate in the ol' rainbow.
Handheld owners are known to purchase multiple units, explained Koller -- especially when there are new colors on the market. Why expand your consumer base when you can continue to re-sell freshened up old goods to the same customers? (Wonder where Sony got that idea...?)
Anything's possible, but it's doubtful that there'll be a new PSP soon.

So the EA comment appears bogus. But even if it were true I would not want one cheaper would be great but thinner? I like the size and weight it is now, hell if anything I'd make it a bit bigger to get to the d-pad easier

i think sony is making a lot of money by taking a old product and making it look new, most of the people i know that had ps2s traded them in to get the slim one so i think it will be the same for the psp, sony is making a crap load of money off of people that want the cool new thing
