Hi I just got a psp and I believe it is ta-082 because it hace the 1c1001 in the umd drive it runs 2.71 sad.gif I have no idea about this stuff what can my psp do what do I have to do to get it to emulate?
adw888
As you have 2.80 firmware or below, your PSP can be made to do everything; play ISOs, homebrew (including emulators), PS1 games, etc.
You need to downgrade to 1.50 then install Dark_AleX's custom firmware 3.40 OE.

Firstly, double-check if you have a TA-082 (this is very important so do not skip this out): TA-082 check image
Then upgrade to 2.80: 2.80 EBOOT
Then use the 2.80 to 1.50 downgrader here: Improved 2.80 Downgrader
The 1.50 EBOOT.PBP file, which needs to be renamed to UPDATE.PBP, is here: 1.50 EBOOT
If you do have a TA-082 then make sure you run the "TA082 IdStorage Changer" before downgrading; if you don't you will brick your PSP.
When downgrading, make sure you follow the instructions carefully, have the battery fully charged and the power cable plugged in.

Finally, you can install custom firmware, such as 3.40 OE-A: 3.40 OE-A Easy Installer

good luck with all the downgrading and all, i suggest that you read the instructions a few times before you do it, cause remeber you only get one shot at it so if you miss a step you get yourself a brand new paper weight.

but after that you can do all kinds of things:
play psx games
run homebrews
run gameboy, nes, snes, gen roms
ect....

Ok I have a problem with HEN I loaded and got the cube to work then went to the main menu and turned off my psp now it won't run hen of the HEN gemes and I'm scared to run the 1.5 eboot. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LordAragornXIII
Oh and I haven't bricked yet I still play my burnout umd so whats going on is anything you can tell me? and sorry for the double post its that you know this freaking me out
adw888
If you turn your PSP off then you need to run HEN again.
HEN doesn't run every time; just keep trying until one of the samples (such as cube) works.
Then run the idstorage changer followed by the downgrader.
LordAragornXIII
Hey great news I got HEN back up but now my problem i with the 1.5 "UPDATE.PBP" the PSP/GAMES/UPDATE folder it says its corrupted data. But the good news I found a more stable way to load HEN:

1. With HEN D on the ms go to the camera icon on the XMB then turn off the psp.

2. Turn on the psp and it should start the menu at the camera then go to the pics but make sure the HEN pic fully loaded then select it.

You'll noticed by doing it this way the ms light on psp will stay solid while HEN trys its stuff instead blinking and that you get a higher success rate plus it doesn't freeze!!! biggrin.gif Hope thats helps somebody.

P.S. I'm not a TA-082, I have a IC6001 mobo.
maps
ICxxxx is not the mobo name, itz kinda name for ic chips..if u open up ur psp, there r lots of ICxxxx numbers laying arnd..TA-xxx is the mobo model..it is written big on the mobo..i wouldn recommend u openning ur psp juz to know ur mobo model,cz it will void ur warranty..

my warranty is over,so might as well explore my psp...mine is obviously TA-082 n i c it with my own eyes and cursed..haha..

Hey great news I got HEN back up but now my problem i with the 1.5 "UPDATE.PBP" the PSP/GAMES/UPDATE folder it says its corrupted data.

Are you sure you've copied the files for the Update Flasher correctly; try deleting it and re-installing it.
It needs to go into "ms:\PSP\GAME\UPDATE\" (the EBOOT.PBP file as well as the 1.50 EBOOT.PBP renamed to UPDATE.PBP).
LordAragornXIII
I tried putting both in the PSP\GAMES\UPDATE folder and it quit saying corrupted data but it now says I don't need to update and I have HEN up and running without any probs plus I ran the "IplDumper" and the "NandDumper" then deleted both of the dump files to be sure. So I'll tell exactly what I've done so far:

1. Updated to 2.8

2. Installed HEN and did the dumps

3. Put 1.5 fw as both EBOOT.PBP and UPDATE.PBP in the UPDATE folder

4. Double checked that HEN was running through "Cube"

5. Then went from the game icon on xmb the UPDATE file

Where did I go wrong? And adw888 I want you to know I really really appreciate all the help you've given me and I'm sorry about being such a pain in the ###.

Firstly don't worry about being a pain; helping people is what I'm here for.

There are two places that I think you might be going wrong:
- the path is not "ms:\PSP\GAMES\UPDATE\", it is "ms:\PSP\GAME\UPDATE\" (without the S in GAMES)
- step 3 doesn't sound right to me; you need to copy all the files from inside the "MS_ROOT" folder in the 2.80 downgrader archive to the root of your memory card "ms:\"
So in the "ms:\PSP\GAME\UPDATE\" folder, you should have:
- decryptprx.prx
- EBOOT.PBP (the downgrader, NOT the 1.50 EBOOT.PBP)
- extprxs.pbp
- libpsardumper.prx
- ta082_driver.prx
- UPDATE.PBP (this is the renamed 1.50 EBOOT.PBP)
These files should be in the link I gave you: http://www.psp-spot.com/forums/280-generic...der-t33090.html
If not, you can get the downgrader from the original source here: http://www.noobz.eu/joomla/index.php?optio...35&Itemid=1

Post back here if you make any progress.

biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif FIRST OFF, WOW THX MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got to 1.5 a bit scary but I got it. Oh and the S in GAMES was just a typo in my post not my ms wink.gif . Now that I'm down to 1.5 I know I'm pretty good and I'm thinking going to the 3.03 OE-A custom firmware but first could you explain 3 very important things to me:

1. Now I have 1.5 is it safe to remove HEN D before I go to 3.03 OE-A?

2. Can 3.03 OE-A run 1.5 homebrew like iso games?

3. If I put a UMD with a higher sony fw and it trys updating my 3.03 OE-A(not that I'll ok it but incase it notices my custom fw), what happens?

biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif FIRST OFF, WOW THX MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got to 1.5 a bit scary but I got it.

Well done; and it is always a bit scary the first time. If you do it many times like I have it's less so.

Onto your questions on 3.03 OE.

1. Now I have 1.5 is it safe to remove HEN D before I go to 3.03 OE-A?

Yes it is, you do not require HEN any more.

QUOTE(LordAragornXIII @ Jan 20 2007, 01:02 AM) *
2. Can 3.03 OE-A run 1.5 homebrew like iso games?

3.03 OE-A can run almost all homebrew if you put it in the "ms:\PSP\GAME150\" folder.
And it has a built-in ISO loader; if you put the ISOs in "ms:\ISO\" they appear in the Game section of the XMB.

3. If I put a UMD with a higher sony fw and it trys updating my 3.03 OE-A(not that I'll ok it but incase it notices my custom fw), what happens?

It won't try to update unless you confirm it, but if you do accidentally try and update it, 3.03 OE has protection which prevents official firmware updates.
LordAragornXIII
Ok I made 3.03 OE-A and you were right about getting use to screwing aruond with my psp's fw. Anyway I'm let topic die smile.gif (i.e. my last in it) but I wanted thx again. sorry about the delayed response but my comp's dsmn wi-fi went crazy.

Hi ADW888,

I'm in a similar situation, my friend's TA-082 has FW 2.71

I see there's a FAQ for downgrading from 2.71 to 1.50. Is the one you suggested above upgrading from 2.71 to 2.80, then downgrading from 2.80 to 1.50 better/easier/safer?

thanks.

also, is there an updated link for:
"Finally, use the 3.03 OE-C easy installer here: http://www.psp-spot.com/forums/303OE-C-eas...3797.html"

Yes. It's much more stable and easier to use. And as for the link, i'm not sure. I don't use the easy installers.

While I remember it; make sure you run the extra "idstoragechanger" step, or your friend will not be happy.

The 2.80 downgrader is marginally better/easier/safer than the 2.71 downgrader, but not by that much.
If you are already on 2.71, it may be worth just using that guide so that you avoid the extra step (2.71 to 2.80).

That really is out of date; I would recommend you upgrade to 3.40 OE-A after the downgrade.

thanks for your reply adw888.

I plan to upgrade VERY carefully. Before I downgrade from 2.71 to 1.5, I saw something from Chilly Willy here about keys being changed. Do you recommend using his fixed 2.71 downgrader?

I was deciding between fw 3.03 oe-c and 3.40 oe-a and thought the former would be safer, but it looks like mostly everyone has had success with the latter. Any other pointers to note while upgrading?

I haven't used it before, but it sounds like a good idea, yes.
The improved 2.80 downgrader (from noobz.eu) is just as good, but for a 2.71 downgrader you might want to use Chilly Willy's.

Both of them are as safe as each other; I would go for 3.40 OE-A (using the Easy Installer).
3.40 OE-A is more up-to-date, and so can play more PSP and PS1 games.
It is also "tried and tested" now compared to the newer 3.51 M33.

adw888,

You've been a tremendous help! One last question before I take the plunge...

One of the downgrading instructions mentions "fake memory" cards. It seems a bunch of people were buying ebay cards and bricking. There is some talk about retail cards should be ok. However, most play it safe and upgrade with a REAL Sony MS.

Any thoughts on that? My sandisk pro duo seems to read/write fine, but does not display the "Magicgate supported". Maybe FW 2.71 doesn't display this result?!

thanks again.

ps where is the "TA-082 IdStorage Changer"? is it one of the options in 1.5 enabler or downgrader?

I have a (solid blue colour) Sandisk 4GB and it works perfectly for downgrades. It has got "MagicGate" written on it though.
I'm not sure what you mean by displaying "MagicGate supported", where does it show that?

I just checked the instructions and it looks like Chilly Willy's "1.5 enabler" is in fact a "TA-082 IdStorage Changer".

Good luck for the downgrade; you've certainly done your research so you should be fine.

Space permitting is it better to load ISO instead of CSO? Is the CSO just compressed or is there some video or music losses?

thanks.

CSO is simply compressed ISO.
Both ISO and CSO can be "ripped" (have video/music/languages/etc. removed).

I use CSO files myself but some people say they find CSO lags compared to ISO (while others say it's the other way round!).
If there is lag, you can always increase the CPU speed in recovery mode.
psxzombie
everything seems to load fine, except for a couple cso's.

Is there a recommended cpu speed?

haha, now another friend wants me to upgrade his 1.5 homebrew enabled... are there any other FW 1.5 that might not be compatible with the ez installer to 3.40 oe-a?

They might just be bad dumps (depending where you got them from).

QUOTE(psxzombie @ Jul 26 2007, 07:20 AM) *

222 MHz is the default, but apart from that not really.
333 MHz is the maximum and usually works OK; there was an issue with WiFi and 333 MHz a while back, and I'm not sure if that's been sorted.

Not that I know of, it should work fine.
But remember to warn him about the risks of bricking; if possible get him to press X to confirm the update. smile.gif
