Firstly, welcome to PSP-Spot toasteh.

If you're not too confident on computers then I'd recommend using this:
http://www.psp-spot.com/forums/index.php?s...c=31508&hl=

It allows you to play ISOs and run homebrew on 2.71 firmware, so you don't have to risk downgrading.

Hi adw888 & tnx for the reply,

Just checking the link I think its for a TA-082, Thats what has lost me off realy - Which do I need ? My M/B does not have any numbers inside when umd tray is open.

Is this the tool I need or do I need a different 1 ? Again I would like to try and do everything with a standard windows program.

So much data out there & for a noob like me its easy to get lost off.

Thanks

I have just watched a vid showing how to downgrade to 1.5 using downgrader 2.71full.exe - It seems very straight forward & easy to follow >
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg_ReGlUAPw...ted&search=

Can anyone confirm if this will be ok to use ?

Also when I am on 1.5 what do I need to do next, Do I need official psp firware or custom firmware ?

Again any help / info is much appreciated.

OK, the package that I linked to was intended for TA-082 as at the time PSPs with TA-082 boards could not downgrade to 1.50 but could run homebrew on 2.71. However, it would also work on non TA-082 boards on 2.71 firmware.

If you want to downgrade, then you need to check if you have a TA-082 first.
It sounds like you've checked already and you don't have a TA-082, but just to be sure:
http://www.modchipstore.com/support/images/ta82spot.jpg

Once you've confirmed that you don't have a TA-082 then you can downgrade using Hombrew Enabler (Revision D) and Update Flasher for 2.71 (Generic Downgrader) with a 1.50 EBOOT file.
Or you could use the Easy Downgrader here: http://www.psp-spot.com/forums/index.php?s...c=27552&hl=

Once you've downgraded to 1.50, I would strongly recommend getting 3.02 OE-B (custom firmware).
There's a decent guide on these forums here:
http://www.psp-spot.com/forums/TA-082-down...E-B-t32213.html
(Start from below "MAKE SURE YOU SAVE THE 1.50 UPDATE FILE IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO")
3.02 OE-B lets you play real UMDs, ISOs from the XMB and practically all homebrew.
It also lets you play PS1 ISOs, has a recovery mode, and prevents you accidentally upgrading your firmware.

Ok,

Got down to 1.5 - Is there a .exe to install 302 OE ?

I have PSP installer deluxe 1.2, will this do it ?

I have read a little and the eboot 150 and 302, Are they custom or offical S with names changed ?

easy install is what a noob like me needs.

Ooh, I used easy downgrader auto to get to 1.5 - does this matter when updating to 302 thingy ?

I don't know, I've never heard of it; use the one above.

They are the official firmware updates with the names changed (if not they would all be "EBOOT.PBP").

As long as you have 1.50, it shouldn't matter how you got there.

It's easiest to switch your PSP to USB mode / connection before you run the install program.

Once the install program has finished you will find a readme file in a newly created folder named "302 OE Readme" on the root of your PSP memory card.
toasteh
Amazing suff adw888.

Worked without a hickup !

I'll get me nose into the readme for more info, Are there more possabilitys to upgrade the psp ie tools, patches and updates ?

I'm probably asking alot for a .exe install.....

Spot on so far tho & TnX again for your support & the forums.

Great to hear that it worked.

About updates, if you're currently on 3.02 OE-A, you can update to 3.02 OE-B:
http://lan.st/showthread.php?p=1135
It's not an .exe install but it's very easy (copy/paste and run a program on your PSP).

About tools, there any many decent homebrew apps to have a look at; iR Shell v3.1 is one of the best all-round apps, it let's you multi-task, manage your files, read TXT/PDF books, play MP3 music, watch PMP/AVC video, among other things. Then there are many good emulators; such as DGEN (Sega Genesis), NesterJ (NES), gpSP (GBA).

But as you're on 3.02 OE; you can pretty much do anything already:
- play real UMD games (which require at least up to 3.02 firmware)
- play real UMD videos (region-free)
- play ISOs (backed up UMD games) from the Game section of the XMB
- run homebrew that uses the 3.02 kernel (put it in "ms:\PSP\GAME\", where "ms:" is your PSP memory card drive letter)
- run homebrew that uses the 1.50 kernel (put it in "ms:\PSP\GAME150\"); almost all homebrew goes here
- watch MP4 videos (put it in "ms:\VIDEO\" and it will come up in the Video section of the XMB)
- browse the web using the Internet Browser
- play PS1 games using the official Sony emulator
3.02 OE also has some other useful features; including:
- preventing accidental firmware updates
- recovery mode (hold the "R" shoulder button when booting)

So basically, you're pretty much all set.
toasteh
Ahh, mucho stuff to look into smile.gif

Aint sussed the different game folders yet as in game or game150, Do I need to be doing something to see the 150 folder ? Presuming i'm in the 302 custom firmware.

I have managed to run .cso game no probs smile.gif

Also, My mrs also has psp and xmas day she updated fw from 2.71 to 2.81. Is she stuck & gutted while i'm on the homebrew or can I do same thing as mine ??

Again, help is appreciated.

The Game section of the XMB shows all the apps in both the "ms:\PSP\GAME\" and "ms:\PSP\GAME150\" folders, you don't need to do anything for it to show them.
The only difference is that the "GAME" folder uses the 3.02 kernel and the "GAME150" folder uses the 1.50 kernel.
As most homebrew is written for 1.50 firmware, it needs to go in the "GAME150" folder to work properly.

Unfortunately she is "stuck & gutted" for now. 2.80 firmware is downgradable but 2.81 is not.
Just tell her not to upgrade any further if she intends to use homebrew in the future.

Well I got the blame for the firware update !

/PSP/ what game folders should I have in there ? there is a few including game271 ( inside says put your eboots ? )

A screenshot of directory structure would help if possible.

I managed to sort 302 OE-B - Do I need any other bits n pieces :-

x loader
dev hook
fast loader
etc

I did also install irshell but would prefer not to use so how do I uninstall / remove - do I just delete from memory stick all relating items ?

The "GAME271" folder probably out of date (left-over from 2.71 SE).
All you need is:
"ms:\PSP\GAME\" (for 3.02 kernel homebrew)
"ms:\PSP\GAME150\" (for 1.50 kernel homebrew, almost all homebrew goes here)

No, not really.

QUOTE(toasteh @ Dec 31 2006, 03:27 PM) *

XLoader is to run homebrew on 2.80, so you don't need it on 3.02 OE.
DevHook is not really necessary as you can already run ISOs of games up to 3.02 firmware.
The only reason why you might need DevHook 0.52 is to run games which require 3.03 firmware (none currently).
FastLoader is not necessary as it is an old ISO loader.

Yes, you just delete all the items you copied for it; I think that the folders you need to delete are:
"ms:\IRSHELL\"
"ms:\PSP\GAME\irshell271\"
"ms:\PSP\GAME150\irshell150\"
"ms:\PSP\GAME150\%irshell150\"

This thread is great. I've been using Hen C and recently Hen D because I've been too afraid to downgrade my PSP. After reading this I feel a bit less scared and I might even try doing this.

I downloaded the 3.02 OE-A Install Program by Booster. I got it from www.PSP-Hacks.com. Has anyone used this installer before? It has a 1.50 recovery mode installer too.

If you do try to downgrade, make sure you use the right downgrader; TA-082 or non TA-082.

It is as easy as "plug in and go"; the custom firmware is on the internal flash memory (you won't have to go through all that again).
You can demonstrate that by taking your memory card out and booting without it, go the "System Information", it will still be 3.03 OE.
Obviously your savegames will remain on the 1GB card, but you can just copy them to a folder on your PC and then back to your new 4GB card.

lo all !

Now that i'm on 3.03OE-B I have the option to change CPU speed in recovery menu - Sometimes on GTA VCS's when alot of action is going on there is some slowdown in the fps, Can I change CPU speed to compensate the slowdown ? Is it normal to slowdown ? Will my PSP go p0p with changing speeds ? Whats a safe speed to run ?

Also, I have 3.03OE-B + version changer - This tool actualy changes firmware version or just the text on the screen ? seems rather eay if it changes the FW......

You can increase the speed to 333 MHz to reduce the slowdown (lag), and it is normal for lag to occur with CSO files. Changing the speed won't break your PSP, it will just run down your battery faster. But don't try 333 MHz with Wifi, there's some problem with that. 222 MHz is completely safe (default) but 333 MHz sholud be fine.

It just changes the text, not the actual firmware. (I think you can make it say 9.99 if you want)

Download the 3.03 OE-B files from http://www.dark-alex.org/
Extract the archive and copy the files in "MS_ROOT" to the root of your PSP memory card ("ms:\"); let it overwrite any existing folders.
Run the 3.03 OE-B Update from the Game section of your XMB.

The new exploit is for 2.81 to 3.03. There is no downgrader yet but there will be soon (should be a few days away now).
The downgrader, when it comes out, should be able to downgrade 3.03 to 1.50.

So yes, it is time for your wife to "put that smile back on her mush".
