Where are you getting this error message, on the PC or the PSP? What operating system are you using on your PC?

I got the same problem at first. But you can manually look for your connected PSP and you should find it. Go to My Computer. Then it should show "Removable disk". Double click that. Then it should show 2 folders: PSP and MP ROOT. If you double click the PSP folder, then MUSIC folder (you should make a music folder if you haven't already), you can put your music there. For movies/videos that were downloaded, put them in any one of the 2 folders inside the MP ROOT folder. But basically what I'm sayin' is, if your comp couldn't find it itself, you might have to manually look for it. I hope I helped. Otherwise, sorry man...

Both run windows xp pro, only difference is ones a p4 the other is an athlon. Think it might be the USB on the p4, the nforce2 works just fine.

Since this happened, have you rebooted your computer? Basic troubleshooting 101 - when in doubt, reboot. You'd be suprised how many problems that fixes, LOL...
Since you just got the PSP, have you formatted your PSP's memory card, or re-formatted since this happened? On the PSP, go to your system settings, and select "format memory card". If it hasn't been done yet, that's probably your problem right there, or if it was, it may be corrupted after the magical "something" happened. I'd just try a re-format, and see if that works. If not...
THat error message sounds like the drivers for the PSP got corrupted somehow. If it displays any additional info in the "error message baloon", what does it say? Does it give you the option to reinstall the driver? XP shouldn't need for you to manually install them, since it's plug and play, but you should be able to reinstall them.
Also, the USB port or controller might have become disabled...have you tried plugging another USB device into the port, and seeing if Windows detects it? Try going to the device manager (right-click on My Computer, select manage, and then select the device manager) and seeing if any of the USB controllers are showing any errors. If so, check to see if they have any troubleshooting info, or check to see if the USB controller can be re-enabled. Also, try disabling and then reenabling your USB controller, then scanning for hardware changes. Sometimes the ports crap out, and you need to re-enable them.

LOL, anytime, my man...I work IT / tech support, and deal with this kinda stuff quite a bit. Not an expert, by any means, but I have lots of practical knowledge. Feel free to PM if you ever have an issue. If I don't know the answer, I know plenty of people that probably do!
