| I had high hopes for the new version of Worms on the PSP. Unfortunately the game is below my expectations. While the graphics have been improved and look very nice on the system, the actual game mechanic has been left unchanged since the original Worms. Worms: Open Warfare still contains no real mission mode and feels like a multiplayer game with bots. Basically, unless you have someone to play with all you can do is jump into a game, play against the AI and repeat with no real goal apart from winning that round. Sure there is a “challenge” mode, but it’s still the same thing as the regular game. Fight the AI and play again if you are so inclined. What about the Worms gameplay you ask, that should be enough to keep me playing right? Unfortunately Team 17 has still not fixed one of the biggest flaws in Worms. That flaw, is the AI opponents taking so rediculously long to take a turn that you want to cry or break something. When you have a PSP in such close proximity, that’s definitely not a good thing. The slow pace is too much to bear at times and I quit the game on many occasions. How you can play this in quick bursts is beyond me and it’s definitely not a good game to play on the go or with little time on your hands. Apart from that major flaw, there are also the long loading times and the feeling that Worms is starting to get old and has outstayed its welcome. Something needs to be done to freshen up the Worms formula as its growing stale. That being said, Worms: Open Warfare is good fun in multiplayer but if one of your friends starts taking as long as the AI to take their turn, they may not be your friend for much longer. Only kidding, or am I? ![]() ![]() |
