What do you think????
god1
I do believe they will fail but we the ps3 supporters cannot show them, the opposition that we know we will fail just like hitler knew he would fail but still whent on strong and in the end failed. hopefully that wont happen to us.
yaboykg
so sony's like hitler??? ooo now i get it, does that make the buyers the gestapo?

Many people have lost faith in sony over the years with all the faults in their products. However, even though blu-ray holds more data, microsoft have backed tobisha 100%, providing money into their project. Even though its less stable than sonys disk! So in turn really is in MS hands. Will they make their OS compatible and will the makers of teh Drives back tobisha or sony. Or will sony just make them? who knows. What i do know is that in june in japan panasonic is going to release its first drive that will be used in desktop computers.

the plus side of blu-ray failing would be that the FAR superior technology will become much cheaper than hd-dvd. i hope that new burner is really fast, if i can back up 30GB faster than i can move it to an external i'll have to buy one.

I've bought far too many Sony products over the years that went bust...that's one of the things that kept me from getting a PSP for so long. For every great idea like the Walkman, they have at least five crap products...The "Electronic Book Reader", mini-disc players, etc. etc.

I think the competing HDDVD/BluRay technologies will help settle the difference in the long run, and as more companies choose one format or the other, eventually the prices will come down, and the better of the two will become the standard. It's like the HDCD/DVD-A/Dual Disc/SACD slugfest...

Come to think of it, that's EXACTLY what it's like...SACD is Sony and Philips' bastard child, and they really dropped the ball there...no set industry standard for the format, crap titles, analog output, etc. DVD-As and Dual Discs are everywhere now, and cost about the same as a CD, whereas SACD you need an interconnect for each channel, and who knows if the manufacturer of the disc got the channels right or not...of the 5 SACDs that I have, only one is encoded right (Oasis - "What's the Story Morninglory?"). The Who's Tommy is a joke...the center (voice) channel comes out of the LFE (subwoofer channel), and another one that I have doesn't even have multiple channels...what's the point of paying for 5.1 surround encoding if all you get is a higher resolution stereo output, and it's not even digital?!!? Sony WAY fucked up on this one... DVD-A is every bit the market winner here, and I'm sure that the HD-DVD format will win the day as well...

yes i think that blu-ray will fail.

i disagree with md's failing. They are a big hit in japan, and are still popular to a niche market over here.

hipe so
redsox33
i think hd-dvd will win considering it is cheaper and is outselling blu-ray 11-1 as of right now
Fox_XIII
i honestly am not so sure

i really dont like umd that much. games such as burnout and GTA freezes for a sec at certain point. even if i had firmware 2.5 it made no difference. all the iso i played had never freeze on me once. blu-ray will take over the world. hd-dvd doesnt sound as cool and can't hold as much as blu-ray. mini disc i have no comment.
lost_rules
i think bluray will fail hd dvd seems more reliable i mean its a dvd (that we all know and love) cranked up 2 hd
shadysaiyan
i think blu-ray will succeed in terms of ps3 games sold, but for movie, i think it might be like how the dvd put the video tapes to rest, but for this to happen blu-ray player are going to have to take a big price drop from what they are now, $1000
Cramer
i think blue ray will work good
spankmonkey
bluat maxx
youngbuck187
there is a good chance of blue ray failing
fortis11
i dont think so its the future
Jaanuzka
Why you all think, hat it will fail? I personaly like it, it can hold much data and stuff.. and it sound good too.. biggrin.gif
idontknow
blu-ray isnt bad just expensive

HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray
For the money you are paying for ... I think Blu-Ray dvds should have some "More extra content"
I think its like DVD's replacing CDs on certain things, every household now/should have DVD player. The idea of HD-DVD is to hold out that market for bit longer. Eventually I think Blu-Ray would be as popular as DVDs
YoungMoneyOH10
i like them both but daaaaamn bluray is so fn exp. its like almost not worth it when you think about it.

this makes me feel what ppl had to go through back in the day when deciding vhs or beta!? haha.
Drew180
I hope blu-rays wins as its superior and has the biggest support. Im also considering buying a blu-ray player but if it is not successful its a waste of money.

Best player is the ps3. I wouldnt buy a standalone. PS3 = cheaper and probably the better or at the minimum equal to the best standalone out.
Drew180
Yes i understand that and it would most likely be my choice. However, PS3'S are not released here and i needed a new laptop and was looking at the sony vaio blu-ray range, thanks for the advice nevertheless!
NyghtcrawleR
Ah...Didnt see that you were from the UK. My bad. A laptop with blu-ray does sound nice though.

HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray
Sound's alot like the old VHS vs Bata that went on back in the 80's. LOL
NyghtcrawleR
Well it basically is the same thing, new format. We'll see how things go as time goes forward.
me10
I hope both blu-ray AND ps3 fail AFTER a few games come out.

It would turn ps3 into a great playground for homebrew. smile.gif

Thats gotta be one of the dumbest things Ive heard. Come on now even if you arent serious. I play consoles for their games, online features, etc...I'm not going to play a console for homebrew. Got my psp for that and the pc if I wanted to also.
me10
Naw, I would enjoy it. Even if it can be done by other stuff.

I just like playing around with systems, like I did with the DC when it died.

It may be dumb.. but if I find it fun, who cares.

That and I don't like using a PC for emulation, and I hate looking at a PSP screen because its hard to see with my horrable vision.
NyghtcrawleR
Hook your pc up to your tv and there you go. Why would you need a ps3 for that?
blacks320
Just saw blu-ray vs. dvd demo at best buy. Have to say its really awesome. True color defination.
quickett
Yes, that sounds pretty dumb, PS3 for homebrew. And to post that on a psp site? Homebrew, that is what a pc and your psp are for.
jmoney267
I don't know were some of the facts are coming from but U.S. retail sales reports show that Blu-ray outsells HD by 5-1 Blu-ray is winning and will continue to dominate HD.
ctrain92
hmm i hope that blue ray wins and honestly i think it aready has many developers are making the players and the movie makers are making the movies in the format u havent seen hd dvd out a lot
HK88
