Capcom's PSP entry in the Monster Hunter series has been one of the system's biggest success stories, with over 400,000 copies sold in Japan since its December release. The powers that be over at Capcom's Osaka home office have apparently taken notice, and now it seems that PSP owners can expect a sequel.

Series producer Tsuyoshi Tanaka, speaking at a Tokyo event held in commemoration of the completion of Monster Hunter 2 (due for PS2 release in Japan on 2/16) revealed that while the next numbered Monster Hunter game will likely appear on a next generation console, prior to that, Capcom hopes to release a new entry for the PSP. As one might expect, details were not provided.

Tanaka also admitted that it might be difficult to release a new numbered entry in the Monster Hunter series around this time next year. However, he pointed out that Monster Hunter 2 was created with the hope that players would be able to get in over 500 hours of play time, which would presumably last for many months. And if a new PSP entry joins in on the fun, we won't be complaining too much.
