Hi,

I'm new to the PSP scene - will finally get mine sometime this week.

I keep on seeing the term 'Homebrew' on these forums - can anyone explain to me what it means.

One more question I have is - should I update my firmware on the unit when I get it? does anyone know what version of the firmware will be on the unit (I'm buying it from the UK) what benefits willl it give me If I do update??

Thanks in advance.

most likely will be 2.5, but if its 2.0 DO NOT UPDATE. Homebrewing
means non comercialed games for free. If you need help with it or questions contact me

It would be great if you have a memary card bigger than 32 mb's becuase there are alot more things you can do

You can downgrade from 2.0 to 1.5 where homebrewing is the best. You can also play roms and real games (piracy) but if you have 2.1 or higher you need GTA lcs to play homebrewing

i'm not really sure what firmware you'll get since you are in UK
homebrew basically means home made games
there are many home made games made for the psp you can play them if you have 2.00 and lower if you have 2.01 and higher you'll need to get gta to run homebrew.
you can play back roms on your psp from old game consols (snes nes genesis pc engine atarri gamegear....) but you need the emulators for those roms (note: the roms are illegal {piracy} if you don't own the original cartriges **cough-who cares biggrin.gif cough**) if you want more information once you get the psp and find out what firmware you have just keep posting on this forum and i'll answer or send me a private message

Guys,

Many thanks for your help.

I got a 2.0 firmware from the UK for Xmas, as far as I am aware they haven't upgraded it here yet.

I was going to reply that Homebrew was a cup tea that you made at home! But that would've been a sad joke!

A mate of mine got a PSP last week and it was 2.60 so just be careful when buying it.

Homebrew, is the best thing about a psp its all the great tools and games that you see on the homepage of this site.

The giga packs from the UK tend to be firmware 2.50 while some value packs might be 2.00. Its unlikely you'll find anything lower unless its been sitting about since launch.

Ah mine was a value pack, so I am glad that I didn't get a giga!
