PSMonkey who has a site on DCEMU.co.uk and more importantly the coder of NGPSP, the Neogeo Pocket Emulator for the PSP, Iris and Quake 3 BSP Viewer has released the Worlds first Nintendo 64 Emulator for the PSP, heres the details in full:

Well i bring you the "theoreticaly" first nintendo 64 emulator for psp. Before you get your hopes up, it only runs a small number of homebrew demos.

Here is the readme:

NOTE: THIS README MUST BE POSTED IN FULL, ANY REMOVAL WILL CALL FOR THE RELEASE REMOVED FROM THE SITE!

My Protest

I am sick and tired of sites treating coders like property. We are here for the scene! We are not your property!

You do not own us! We would still be here without you and just as strong!
This project is dedicated to all scene coders out there keeping up the good fight to progress the scene and not for cash, fame or being bought out by sites. This project is dead from here on out untill this scene improves!

If you wish to join my protest, please visit my homepage. http://nemo.dcemu.co.uk

Enjoy the emu. Ps, This wont run commercial n64 roms.

// Info

This is theoreticaly the first n64 emulator on the psp. It only runs 2 PD/Homebrew demos (stars & fire) which are included with the release. If the scene improves. I will come back and eventualy get a working emulator that will allow psp users to play smaller n64 games like mario 64 on their psp. If not, this emulator stops here. Also do note the source is included.

// To Use

1) Copy the "n64" Folder to the root of the memory stick.
..) Example "G:\" (replace G: with your psp drive letter)
2) Copy the files from the folder containing your psp version number
..) Example, 1.0 users will go into 1.0 folder and copy the psp directory to the root of the memory stick.
3) Run the software

// Greetings

wraggster, GPF, Pochi, Zeenbor, Lac, Everybody who worked on this emu & all at dcemu!

its the first release of a n64 emulator for the psp. It only runs 2 demos currently. If I don't feel ungodly pist off at psp scene websites in the future I plan to get a n64 emulator going that will be able to play mario64 at at min 30fps.

It would be a miracle if this comes close to full speed.

Yeah man, I cant wait to play some portable Mario 64 biggrin.gif

Let's just hope it's not BS like the thousand other "coders" out there!

Quake 2 came out and it runs fine. I have faith in the N64 emulator, but a min of 30fps isn't too much. Who knows, this could be a big flop.

I CANT WAIT if this is Possibly HOW BOUT SOME PS1 AT 30fps or higher would be so sick man..CANT WAIT FOR ONE OF THE 2

Hey guys there is a few things to consider. Both systems are mips based (the psp & n64). The psp also has some great things going for it which could help aid in the emulation of the n64 (like its VFPU) that are pretty worthless to say snes or genesis emulation.

Actualy all emulation in general suffers from the same problem. They are all ports of stuff optimised for the x86 platform or aim for accuracy over speed.

Please dont get me wrong by this release. I am a very dedicated psp coder. I'm the only coder on the Iris project which is shaping up to be a nice little homebrew 3d third person shooter. So i am not some two bit coder trying to scam the scene. My big beef is I am getting sick and tired of the in fighting between a few sites that shal remane nameless. It's BS when other releases are posted lower on the news site because they are sucking ass of another scene coder to get more web hits. Scene coders are here for the scene & users. They are not here for the websites to generate hits & revenue though banners.

Sadly n64 was the only way my message/complaint would get heard. If i tagged it to anything else nobody would probably give a rats ass. Yet since it's n64, it will be noticed.

I would like to note that so far feedback has been wonderful & if I see it to continue I definantly will dive into getting a real n64 emulator going asap (need more work on iris atm).

Nice to see we are getting more coders that are tired of all the drama. I salute you. I do hope to see your projects shape up in the near future.

I like your idea of starting from scratch. With processors that have a similar architecture it should shape up well.It is obvious that any 32mb or greater games won't play because of the ram the PSP has, but that doesn't mean you still can't get a few great games to play. I am looking forward to playing Mario 64 portably on my PSP. I am just wondering how would the control scheme work? The N64 has 9 buttons to work with not counting the analog, Dpad, and start button while the PSP has 6 buttons.

For controls, you can do what Quake 2 modders did. Use the addon that comes with the bundle pack, that should be good. Hope you can get this working good. Suppose it doesnt work with 2.0?

Thanks for the suport guys. smile.gif

No. Thank you for staying active in the scene.

We here at PSP-Spot welcome you to our boards, and acknowledge the great work you are doing for the scene....

I really think people should be more respectfull and comprehensive with coders. If it was not for them we would not have any homebrew to play on the PSP.
