The Management of Microsoft has declared the "full adherence" to the competing format HD DVD also applying for the status of the branch standard of record of video of the ultrahigh sanction.

Accordingly, the company " does not have absolutely any plans concerning support of the third formats of optical carriers ", informs The Register referring to the official application Microsoft made, in turn, to reply to the courageous comment of Peter Moore, heading in Microsoft "entertaining" division.

Let's remind, that in the beginning of month Moore has declared, that Xbox 360, basically, all the same, with what external drive to work. And if Microsoft has decided to include in consoles support HD DVD with the same success it is possible to add the external drive working in format Blu-ray.

Making comments on these words, press-service Microsoft has noted, that Moore simply wished to show journalists and investors, that the prefix is ready to any turn of a market situation and that Xbox 360 will be such need, it is possible to equip practically with any periphery which will demand the market. And the case with drive HD DVD - is the convincing proof.

And what about the technology Blu-ray advanced by Japanese company Sony Microsoft does not trust in its future and, accordingly, does not plan to include its support in Xbox 360. As this format of optical carriers will be, on hearings, to be used for distribution of games and a media-content for competing prefix Sony PlayStation 3 and at Microsoft obviously is not present the slightest desire to play on a hand to the most malicious competitor.

So basically if HD DVD goes down the toilet... Xbox 360 users can buy a Blu-Ray drive from Microsoft.... and get royally shafted on the price since MS will need to buy the licenses from Sony- and MS will pass the "cost" to the consumer.

I think the MS person is saying: Hey Xbox 360 users... don't worry we'll take care of you if HD DVD fails...

Personally, I don't use my Xbox 360 for media... period (and rarely use my Xbox with XBMC for media). I have a DVD player for that, and plan on buying a HD DVD or Blu-Ray player once a format wins. Thankfully, MS announced the external periphials will only be used for additional media types... not for games
