Hey everyone, I come before all you homebrew pros and seek your help! I had my psp for over a year now and I didn't know about homebrewing until my friend told me the other day! I got curious and searched around and tada! I came across this wonderful site.

After searching the forums, I felt ashamed I spent so much money on psp UMDs and movies when I could've just downloaded them all! I've read most of the guides in the 'Hack and Exploit' sections, but none of them actually tell me how to put games(iso/cso) into my psp and play it. Now everyone is talking about custom firmware this and custom firmware that, but I really have no clue on what to do with my psp to play games on it!

In other words, I just want to be able to play downloaded games in my psp without spending $30~$40 per game just so I can satisfy my hunger for psp games. You all seem like friendly and helpful people so please help me out! Thank you very much!

First, welcome Nesu. As for your problem, it really isn't hard to get a custom firmware on your PSP. What firmware does your PSP have right now?

Sorry for the late reply, it's finals week...

My current version is 2.71. Haven't played it in a while so it isn't up to date.

Also, I have another question: what does "brick" mean? As in my psp is "bricked." I saw this term many times on these forums and couldn't figure out what it meant. All I know is that "bricked" is bad, heh. If anyone can explain the meaning of bricked and how to avoid it, I would be grateful.

Having 2.71 is good as it can easily be downgraded to 1.50.
Once you are on 1.50 you can install custom firmware (such as 3.52 M33).
Many 2.71 downgraders are available here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/category/35
The one you need will depend on which hardware version you have (TA-082/TA-086 or earlier).

Bricked = broken beyond (software-based) repair.
Well, at least that used to be the case, but with Pandora's Battery most 'bricks' can now be fixed.

PS: You shouldn't feel "ashamed" to have been honest and bought the games you've played (that's what I do as well). Custom firmware isn't meant to be about piracy.

Ok, I went to the site you mentioned and downloaded the 2.71 downgrader. My question is this: how do I connect my psp to my computer? I'm guessing through USB, but I'm not sure. Sorry if I sound really noobish, I haven't done anything "cool" with my psp yet. (Only played games and watched a few movies.)

I went ahead and searched 'how to connect psp to pc' and got this: psp usb cable
Is this the right one? If not, what do you guys use to connect your psp to PC?
