Hi all,
So i had this guy who said he'd downgrade my psp for like 25$ ..which i thought was fine since lumines cost that much anyways.
So i went to him and he put 3.71 M33-2 on it. I thought he'd put 1.50 but its 3.71 M33-2 and he said i'd require a UMD everytime i run a game from my memstick & he asked for an additional 25$ to get it to a firmware(wouldnt tell me which) to run games without umd....to which i said no.So there i have a 3.71 M33-2 PSP.

Questions :

1.) 3.71 M33-2 requires a UMD to run games is this true ?

2.) 2.) EDIT : I just went to this page http://www.dark-alex.org/
So can i get from 3.71 m33-2 directly to 3.90 M33-2 or do i have to get the 3.71 M33-3 then 3.71 M33-4 and so on one by one ? & do i need lumines for it ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I think you can but I was advised to go to 3.80m33-5 not up to 3.90. If you go to 3.80 you can do it directly from 3.71 m33-2.

You can get all the files you need from http://www.dark-alex.org/ and they all contain a readme file, make sure you read this first. Since im not up on 3.90 I can't say if you can go from 3.71 to 3.90 but if you check the readme file in 3.90m33 it will give you the requirements.

so you went from 3.71 M33-2 to 3.80 M33-5 with no problems ?

any particular reason why not to 3.90 ? and is there any real difference between 3.71, 3.8 & 3.9 or is it just so that you can load the latest games which require it ?

Thanks

EDIT: Do i require the official 3.8 firmware in the update folder or will it directly update from 3.71 to 3.8 without it .It doesnt say so in the readme file that came with 3.80 M33-5 but i dont want to screw it up smile.gif

I think you'll have to go via 3.80 M33, but I'm not 100% sure.

Some people say 3.80 M33-5 is more stable than 3.90 M33-2, but I've been using 3.90 M33-2 with no problems.

It sounds like you need to put the 380.PBP (renamed 3.80 EBOOT) in the update folder when going to 3.80 M33, then you don't need it when going to 3.80 M33-5.
Again, I can't remember as now I just go straight to 3.90 M33-2, but I think you need to do:
3.71 M33-2 - 3.80 M33 (with 3.80 firmware in update folder) - 3.80 M33-5
Download 3.80 M33 and have a look at that readme.

thanks i think i got it now
oh and is there a risk when upgrading fw's as well ? i know there is when downgrading but is there when going up a firmware ?
Thanks
phlak
I too would back up the advice to just go to 3.80 M33-5.
I am on that CFW right now and I have loved it for the last few months. Only reason to go to 3.90M33 is to run GOMESSENGER!

The risk when updating custom firmware is minimal; probably about the same as the risk when updating official firmware - things are only likely to go wrong if you pull out the power cable and the battery falls out during the process.

1) no you do not need a UMD to run an iso or cso. Just go to the recovery menu and change the setting to no run UMD. I have use this for quite a while now. I am on M33 3.71-2 with no complaints everything works for me right now. The only reason I update (and it's very rare) is because a game doesn't work (iso or cso). The only downfall is nowa days you do need a bigger mem stick.

2)No you do not need lumines. It just an update if you have M33 3.71 all you have to do is d/l the update and install just follow the directions to the letter and it should only take you about 30 sec. to update. If you have any more questions feel free to pm I'll help you anyway I can. But if your not sure than don't do it.

BTW: that guy you took it to is fukin ripping you off. Tell you another $25 for it to run without a umd Sh!t what a prick. All he's going to do is go to the recovery menu (power off completely and re-start by holding down the r trigger and power on) Than go to advance settings pick (one of three different settings and see if it works) on of the no umd run iso settings. I'll charge you nothing and give you all the info you need. lol Hope that helps some.
