Tech site finds the solution to quieter, cooler Xbox 360 gaming

Respectable tech savvy website 'ExtremeTech' has a lengthy feature article on how you can get a quieter and cooler Xbox 360 gaming experience. Their solution is simply to install th first generation Talismoon Whisper Fan (Talismoon.com). After installing the replacement fans, the product lived up to the hype, the Whisper is rated at 38 decibels while the original fan is louder at 41 db's. Elsewhere, the Talismoon fan moves air a lot quicker at 46 cubic feet per minute in comparison to just 29 CFM.

We had to reach behind the unit and feel the air coming out to be sure. Even without the DVD-ROM drive running, the fan was startlingly quiet, at least to a couple who was used to the much louder Xbox 360 stock fan.

Indeed, the Whisper fan is rated at 38 dB(A) (decibels), while the original fan is a significantly louder 41 dB(A). Meanwhile, the new fan moves air at 46 CFM (cubic feet per minute) while the old one sauntered at 29 CFM. Clearly, the Talismoon Whisper Fan is superior—but at what cost?

Consider not only the price of the products you buy to perform the task and replace the fan, but also the voiding of the warranty: you'll certainly be sad if, two weeks after the mod, your 360 goes belly up and you have to purchase a new one out of pocket.

Pointer Graphic for FingerlinksNow that you're 360 doesn't sound like a garbage disposer, turn it into a media extender.

Weigh your options carefully before you decide whether to quite down your 360, and remember that the ridiculously loud DVD-ROM drive won't be affected by your efforts. When you play games from disc, the quieter fan won't matter a bit as you'll hear that whirling disc drive. If, however, you use your 360 for media, you might find the relative silence quite rewarding.

Ah, who cares if its too loud. Just get the Nyko Intercooler. It starts up a little loud but it really puts out. You can find it on ebay for about 4 bucks, with shipping cost added on...$10.00. That's not bad for a quick fix. Its a lil bit louder, but when you have your surround sound speakers blasting you will never notice it.

Uhm who cares, well how about the fact that noise tends to represent if a fan is stress or is poorly heating, now lets continue, internal stress combined with poor welds and misplaced heatsinks=failure, I like this Intercoolers make a system look nasty, but to each their own I guess.
