Nintendo's Biggest Threat? R4


It's called the R4, and it's here to rain on Nintendo's parade. The R4 fits right into the DS's cartridge slot. Data is stored on a Micro SD and downloaded via a flash drive. The R4 has a small slot that the Micro SD card goes into. The China-made piracy device is available all over Akihabara, where retailers advertise it vaguely: "New R4 shipment has finally arrived! You know what it does! Absolutely no questions will be answered concerning this product..." or "Guaranteed for one week only! Of course we can't explain what the R4 will do..."

Says a Nintendo spokesperson:


With DS games appearing on the internet within days of release, the R4 is certainly be a very real threat. And something Nintendo should be keeping a closer eye on.

Before people slander against the R4.

People must realize the basic of economics.

Firstly, the R4 is a device that plays Nintendo DS roms, thus allowing the player to infinitely get games for free.

This might SEEM like it lowers sales on a DS, but however INCREASES it, how?

Simple, when people find a device that allows them free stuff, such as the R4, it increases the DS's sales because now EVERYONE wants one, and free games.

Secondly, Nintendo "claims" to trying to stop against this piracy of games, when really if they were to stop it at full force, DS sales would decrease, and a slow economic decay will occur because of it, DS's will be stacked so high, it'll make the PS3 stock look like an Asian penis.

So as Nintendo claims to push security against the R4, it really wants it to thrive to continue sales.

So in conclusion, piracy helps the economy.

Does anybody have experience with the R4 vs M3Real?

I've been looking forward to getting one but many places are out of the R4, but NXPGame for instance has the M3 in stock.

Essentially they are the same hardware. In fact, the two teams share information and code... M3 though seems to be a little more robust on the code. Fine by me cause the M3 is cheaper right now at NXPGame

Oh the R4 is great. Homebrew works fine, and it has a built-in text reader, with bookmarks.
