Let no-one say, "there's no games for the PlayStation" again. Sony has released a list of over 100 games for the PlayStation 3 (PS3), PlayStation 2 (PS2), and PlayStation Portable (PSP). This is going to be a huge holiday season for PlayStation gamers. Now deciding which of the games off this massive list to buy looks to be the real problem.
Sony Computer Entertainment America's 2007 holiday line-up is full of first-party and third-party software and hardware bundles for all the PlayStation platforms. The variety of hardcore and casual games represents a shift for Sony. Both SCEA and third-party publishers are bringing a wider variety of games to the PlayStation systems than we have seen in the past.
"This holiday season we are offering our largest line up of quality software and hardware products to meet every taste, lifestyle and budget," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President, Product Marketing, SCEA. "Triple-A masterpieces such as Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and bundles such as the Daxter PSP Entertainment Pack and the SingStar PlayStation 2 Pack, will demonstrate SCEA’s commitment to providing consumers with the most diverse software and hardware on the market today." Sony's new commitment to serving the totality of gamers comes at an opportune time as casual gaming becomes a larger and larger segment of the gaming world.
Sony's first-party holiday line-up includes the PS3 games: Heavenly Sword from Ninja Theory Ltd; the action-adventure Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune from Jak & Daxter developer Naughty Dog; Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (a must have game!) from the highly acclaimed Insomniac Games; the trading card based THE EYE OF JUDGMENT, produced in conjunction with Hasbro and its Wizards of the Coast subsidiary and NBA 08. These games represent only a small fraction of PS3 games available. Third-party titles like Call of Duty 4, Rock Band, Unreal Tournament 3, Time Crisis 4 (another great looking game), and Assassin's Creed really round out the holiday games on the PS3.
The PlayStation 2 is getting a getting a ton of social and party games just in time for your holiday festivities with a new limited edition ceramic white PS2 bundled with SingStar Pop for $149.99. In addition to the vast library of existing titles for PlayStation 2, SCEA will be launching holiday games geared towards the social and casual gamer including Buzz! The Mega Quiz, Buzz! Junior: Jungle Party, SingStar:Amped and SingStar: '80s. Now with so many great PS2 games coming out, one does have to wonder why the 40GB PS3 isn't compatible with any of them (while the 60GB, 80GB, and 20GB versions are).
With such a great PS2 holiday lineup I'd have expected them to be marketed as PS2/PS3 games, as they work on both systems. Gripes aside, let's take a look at the list of holiday PlayStation games.
