New PS2 to be released 2008

A little news about our old friend, the ps2. There’s a new PlayStation 2 to be released in the new year (exact release date tbc), which will be available in three colours - ‘Charcoal Black’, ‘Ceramic White’ and ‘Satin Silver’. Hit the jump to view the other colours.

I like teh white one, I am going to get it. Since I couldn't get a white PS3 (nor would I have wanted to).

And all you people saying let it go, this is pretty ignorant. The ps2 is a money making machine for Sony and it has a huge fanbase. Letting it go is a dumb idea when they are still supporting their fans. Ms essentially abandoned the Xbox when the 360 came out and this was a stupid move especially since the 360 was costing them money instead of bringing it in. The same with the ps3, it costs more to produce then they sell it for, so why not supplement that with the ps2?

On top of that if you want to still play your old ps2 collection you could always buy a new slim ps2 and go with the 40gb ps3, so no worries about backwards compatability. Foolish to let it go yet, you guys should know this by now.....

This is exactly why they're not selling the PS3's. Freakin retards. That's what pisses me off about Sony. They should be getting their a$$es on making playstation home not more PS2's. They're so outdated get rid of them. At this moment they've been out for 7 years and why was Manhunt 2 made for PS2 and PSP. Why not PS3 and PSP. Sony, you're a joke, get out of my face.

Maybe you ought to look more, but ahem the PS2 a near 7 year old console is beating the nextgens in sales, so a 7 year old console is more relivant, plus it's not like they tossed the PS3 aside, they simply reflashed the PS2 made it look a little snazzier, they still have folks hard at work on the PS3. And games are cheaper to make for the PS2 than the PS3 maybe Sony wants their money to work on things like HOME, and future titles such as MGS4, and FFXIII or would you rather they make a real nice looking MH2 for PS3 and ceist developement on HOME, or make crappy looking future titles. The PS2 and PSP are Sony's biggest revenue right now, get over yourself. I could understand you anger maybe if Sony did something like remarket the PSone now that would be a silly move.

utterly see no point as to why there gonna release yet ANOTHER ps2. my one is gathering dust in the cupboard. why cant they concentrate on making the ps3 and psp better eh??

You guys posting against this are pretty much ignorant I must say. The ps2 helps supplement the cost of the ps3, so its actually a smart move and a lot of people still play ps2 stuff as the library is huge. Its not a smart move to just toss it out like MS did with the original Xbox which pissed a lot of people off.

Agreed 100% Nyght, the PS2 is still a vital part to Sony, and isn't going to kick the bucket anytime soon, I mean it's just such a good console, and as you say the library of games is massive, it's just a relevant piece to Sony, and makes them the sales they need to work on the PSP/PS3 whether it comes to getting future titles, new feature, ect. The PS2 is just a fun console and is the winner in the nextgen race (even though it's not nextgen), it's sales beat just about every other console.

Ye the ps2 still sells but why bring out another one when its really not needed. Some1 who has a slim ps2 will not go out and buy this one because they look the same, almost. Why spend money on creating another ps2 when the current one is fine. Thats what pisses me off.

Because HK it's prooven different colours sell, when the white PSP was launched people went nuts for it, they had to have one, even though the black PSP was already out, some black PSP owners even bought the white to go with the black PSP, some people want the option of different colours. And as I said before it's not like Sony completely re-did the console they just put it in colours is all.

But they didnt just bring it out in new colours they actually altered it in some way. Although it might not have cost them TOO much, why bother. Plus if i have something and they bring it out in another colour i would never buy it. Its just stupid and a waste of money

Well that may be how you view it but others will not plain and simple.

It can be good for people who dont have a PS2, but would be glad to try out its classics (like me-and in my country the PS3s cant play PS2 games )
