New Wii Firmware update bricking moded Wii consoles?

Earlier on, Nintendo took down their shopping channel for approximately 3 hours and it has returned with a new look. A new firmware update on the Wii adds many a small feature and arugably an increase in the speed of the UI. There is also a message which has something to the effect that if you have modded your Wii, then your console may be disabled or lock up! If you want to avoid this update, then you will have to power down the system.

QUOTE
"After you update and go back to the update section to before a "test update" you will be greeted with a message that says something to effect that if you have a modified Wii your console may be disabled or lock up. Mod Chippers owned? If you want to cancel you have to power down your system."
