Well, lets start it off by saying... IT FRIGGIN' WORKS!!!

Now, time to explain how to do it, and for the record, this is using a wireless card in the PC

Your going to need a few files to get this going, and I will include a download at the bottom of the page. Alright, here we go!
Hidden Content

Setting up the Computer

First off, we are going to setup the computer to use adhoc networking.

1. Click Start -> Control Panel

2. Double-click the Network Connections icon

3. Select your Wireless Network Connection, and right-click

4. Click on Properties

5. Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and click the properties button.

6. Select the Use the Following IP Address button

7. Type in the IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway. (ex. 192.168.1.117 = IP, 255.255.255.0 = Subnet, 192.168.1.117 = Gateway)
Make sure that the computers IP and the Gateway are identical WRITE THIS DOWN!!!!!

8. Click OK

9. Click on the Wireless Networks Tab and select Use Windows to Configure My Wireless Networks Settings

10. Click add at the bottom

11. In the SSID tab, type in adhoc xxxxxxxxx where x is whatever you want it to be, this is case sensitive so remember exactly how you typed it. WRITE THIS DOWN!!!!

12. Network authentication should be Open, and Encryption should be WEP, and uncheck the box The key is provided for me automatically

13. Type in a 10 character WEP key using hex (0-9 a-f). Re-type in the second box. WRITE THIS DOWN!!!!!!

14. Select the box This is a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network

15. Click the Connection tab, and make sure the box is checked, then click Ok

16. Click on the Advanced button.

17. Set it for computer-to-computer ad hoc, and check the automatically connect to non-preferred networks button

18. Click close, ok.

Your computer is now setup, time to move on to the PSP... continued in next thread.

Part 2, XMB Configuration

Now we set up the XMB on the PSP

Hidden Content
1. Scroll to Settings, and down to Network Settings

2. Select Infrastructure Mode

3. Select New Connection

4. In the WLAN Settings, scroll down to Enter Manually, and hit right on the D-Pad

5. Hit X, and type in the SSID you named you network, remember, it is case-sensitive

6. Under WLAN Security Setting, select WEP and hit right on the D-Pad

7. Hit X, and type in the WEP Key that you made for the network

8. Under Address Settings, select Custom, and hit right

9. Under IP Address Setting, select Manual, and hit right

10. Plug in the information that you wrote down earlier. You need to put in your computers IP address that you assigned for the wireless in the Primary DNS spot. Also, you need to put in an IP Address for the PSP itself. It should have the first 3 sections matching the computers IP address. The forth section should be a number above the final section of the PC. Click right on the D-pad when done.

11. Under Proxy Server, make sure Do Not Use is selected, and click right on the D-Pad.

12. Under Internet Browser, select Do Not Start, and click right

13. Enter the SSID again in the Connection Name box, then click right when done.

14. Browse through the settings on this screen, and make sure you put in everything correctly, then click right.

15. Press X here to save the settings

16. Do not test the connection. It will not work. Instead hit O twice to get back to the XMB.

Alright, now the XMB is setup, now all we have left to do is install Irshell and configure it. Also need to have NetHostfs running on the PC, but we'll get to that in a moment. The rest will be continued in the next thread.

Vampyrik
Now, we need to get IRShell installed, and a few additional files need to be placed.

I am not going to write a tutorial for installing IRShell. AhMan did a very good job of explaining how to install it, and a spectacular job designing the software. I'm also going to give credit to StoneCut, for his constant assistance to everyone with issues involving the software. These guys make an awesome team. More credits will ensue, but I figured before I get into the software I would go ahead and handle this part of it. Now.... onto the setup

Hidden Content
1. Go ahead and download the file at the bottom of the page, it's going to have everything you need for the rest.

2. Unpack the file using WinRar, and send it to the PC

3. Install IrShell 3.6, the folder is called pspirshell36, leave the other IRSHELL folder alone for now

4. After installing IrShell, copy the IRSHELL folder from the download into the root of your MS

5. If your not in Irshell with a 3.52 at the top of the screen, you need to get there for the next part

6. In Irshell, scroll down to the IR configurator at the bottom, and hit X twice

7. Make sure your settings look like these:

Non-MS Media Access: Enable
Redirect APP View to Host: Enable
Redirect Keypad to Host: via Nethost0
XMB Network for Nethost: *Select your network that you put into XMB here*
NetHost IP/Name: mine is blank, you can have something here if you use APs
Nethost IP Adhoc: *Put in the IP address of your computer here*
Nethost Port: 7513
NetHost Password: *Set this to what you want to, but if you don't use mypass, your going to need to change a file later, it's up to you*
Nethost/UMD Compatibility: Maximum
Allow Adhoc PC connection for Homebrew: Enable

8. Now, go back to your pc, and move the NetHost folder to where you want it to go

9. After you move it, if you changed the password for nethost, you need to right-click the nethost.bat file and click edit

10. Where you see "mypass", replace it with the password you set.... if you did

11. Save the file, close the document, and run the file.

12. Make sure your WLAN switch is set to on for the PSP

13. Now, go back to the PSP, and try to toggle nethost. It won't go through

14. Set the WLAN toggle to off, and try again... still no dice, right?

15. Set it to on again, and try to connect one more time. It should connect this time.

As of now, I am having trouble streaming ISO files via the Nethost, but am working on using some other applications to assist with the issue. Now, there are other guides out there on the Net, and I found quite a few, but none of them were concise, to the point, or even had the same configuration. This method worked for me, and should work for you also. If you run into any problems, please post here with the issue and I will try to help you out as much as possible.

Now, for the props:

Dark_Alex - Do I need to say more? A PSP modding legend... if you don't know about DAX, your running Sony Official FW
AhMan - Thank you for all that you have done with IrShell, and for coming out of retirement for this newest release. You have made a lot of things possible!
TyRaNiD - some of the files used in this are from PSPLink, TyRaNiD's creation. Thank you for the materials
StoneCut - The voice of IrShell, StoneCut devoted countless hours to absolving issues with the Shell, thank you for your dedication!
Team M33 - Without them, the FW movement may have come to a halt. They are taking care of us now, and are very on top of things.

I feel like I'm missing someone here, but I can't put my finger on it. If someone knows, please drop me a line so that they can be included in this. Thx

Have fun with this setup, and as always, strive for more than what you have.... push the limits!

Peace,

Vamp

Well I certainly hope so, else the time it took to write this will be wasted. Either way, the info and stuff is there if someone ever wants to, and that was the point. smile.gif

Hm, I've tried several guides on this subject, to no avail. Hope this one works! I've set up several networks in my house (mainly for when friends came over, or getting new machines, etc)... So I'm no lamen to networking. I've built several computers, and even worked as a helper with a small business networking guy. So I've been getting pretty frustrated that I can't manage to get Ad-hoc working without a router!

thanks, but i'm having some troubles.

The trouble is with setting up my computer. I am stuck at step 7. After I input my IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway, the DNS part at the bottom is empty. Even if I put in some values for the DNS, my computer then cannot connect to the internet because of DNS issues. I am also stuck at step 9. I cannot find a Wireless Networks Tab anywhere. All I have after clicking the properties of my wireless network connection are general and advanced. The general tab has tcp/ip thing with the properties button. That is where I'm supposed to set my IP address, etc for step 7. In the advanced tab, there is a windows firewall setting, and Internet connection settings. I cannot find a Wireless Networks Tab anywhere.
