Well only the double sided fit 50 gigs. This does sound awesome plus it won't raise the price. Another thing to brag about over faggot xbox

Good point shinobe, and if u is right about the whole "who has the most money" is going to win thing, then ms will win hands down, i mean they do hav Bill Gates for chirsts sake! But Sony are awsome wid de markets, so....
dude404
Of course the blu ray would be able to play old PS games, PS2 games, and Dvds.

Wow, there's an amazing amount of misinformation and opinions flowing through this thread.

One thing to note: Bigger isn't necessarily better. I highly doubt ANYONE will be using 27GBs for their games anytime soon. It's just not happening. More isn't necessarily better. Would you rather have a 10 hour game that's totally freaking amazing or a 1000 hour game that's boring as can be? I'll take the 10 hour game, thank you very much.

Also, games are perfectly capable of being longer today! They would just need a 2nd disc. Remember the oldskool PSOne days where you'd get a game that was 2 or 3 CDs long? You're still capable of having that happen today but no one's doing it yet because there hasn't been any need to do that.
dude404
I think the main purpose for the blu ray drive would be for those Hi def movies. Think about the quality and the extras they'll be adding for the movies.

And who knows they might add extras stuff on the PS3 games.
DontCry_Pl0x
since the ps3 is gonna cost so much I think sony should at least make the games start at 40 bucks each. their makign a huge profit either way.
Sniper.
WOW 54 gb omfg.. dood i cant wait for the new gta games come out! and if these games are in fact 80 bucks then ill wait til someone cracks the ps3 boot function and then buy a .. m0dch1p lol

wait oh shit blu-ray burners would cost a fortune.. :S
dude404
Apparently it will cost a lot. Only time will drop the prices for us. Which will probably be a long ways a way.

Console hardware is generally sold at a LOSS at launch. Every time you buy a system, the maker is losing money. This was especially true for the Xbox at launch and I'm pretty sure the same goes for the Xbox 360. Other systems have similar stories. The logic is this, once you have the system, you're going to buy games for it. The real money is made on the games. After all, you're only going to buy the console once, but you're going to buy games numerous times. And if you already have a console, you're that much more likely to buy the games! smile.gif

That would sort of be cool, except for the fact that there is only one analog stick and 2 shoulder buttons. But I think it is a cool idea.

Y is everyone saying they so badly want a Blue - ray GTA game?
Think about it, if you want a 54 gig or so game of it it will take years to make, like 7 or 8 years. And if they did chuck all that in it would probobly just be recycled Sh!t, as apposed to say San Andreas, wich as most people will agree MASSIVE and only using 4 gig. And knowing Rockstar, my estimate before of 7 or 8 years would be an absolute understatment. If they want "the kick ass app" it might take even longer than that to create.... ill just wait for MGS 4 thanks, at least we know that is coming NEAR launch...
jgez07
It doesn't have to be so much bigger. Just that HD graphics take up more space and we know that GTA games aren't the best looking games.
Thornex
ehm i just heard about blu ray and it sounds ownage! biggrin.gif lol. 50gb on 1 disk? ohmy.gif
Dan x
jgez07, i do aknoledge the fact that using HD graphics will take up more space, but that is just GRAPHICS. Rockstar in the current gen (as GTA SA has proven) dont really give a stuff about the graphic component of the game.
shellz
tha next GTA game better b huge

I think that blu-ray is gonna be awesome! I can't wait for it to come out!
psp100
can you burn data on blu-ray disks
allsorts111
Thats if developers want to spend ages on a game, that might not even make that much profit, when they can spend short amounts of time on games that are short but may sell. tongue.gif

Snake a
blue rayy is probably going to win because sony are being supported by nearly everybody but microsoft and toshiba. loads of film producing company has desided to back it up because it is harder for pirating.
Hooli
Are all games going to use blue-ray??? Mgs 4 is going to be so good. Especially if it is 50gb hopfully it is normal price.

kyler24x
50 gb of game would be awesome but will not happen, remember that all that high definition goodness will also take up more space so to put it in perspective its not going to be as much free space as many think
ghostsnyper
for the record, and i dont know if anyone laid down these guidlines yet, but oh well here i go
1.blu-ray is a 54gb SINGLE layer disc

2. there are burners for it, although they are roughly 1,000$ each

3. xbox 360 used HD-DVD...they store 45GB of space

4.the guy who earlier said here or in another thread that blu-ray is cheaper to produce than a cd-r is an idiot. A.K.A adamsutton12345....no offence...but look before you jump mate

5. blu-ray discs cost anywhere from 2-7 or 8 dollars..i am unsure in the price area of it

6.blu-ray and HD-DVD are good because game producers had a hard time fitting all their goodies into a single dvd, seeeing that the ps2 doesnt have dual layer capabilities

7. yes- even though hd takes a lot more space, were talking at least 2-3 times more leg room than a standard dvd.....

8.final fantasy 12 is an awesome game....get it.......ff 13 will probly push the disc limits with no doubt

9.it is said that at least 95% of ps3 games will be blu-ray....xbox 360 is off with HD-DVD and has no plans for blu-ray yet

10. ps3 games are no doubt gonna be 60$...probly be 50 by now if it werent for pirating lol.....

11.bottom of the blu-ray is blue or purple....leaning toward purple in my view

and i think that about covers it.......if i missed anything, please post after......like you will anyway....l8r
dira
actually the blu ray disk is blue, which is one of the reasons why its named that way. oh and of course, the laser to read to the disk is also blue, unlike the conventional red, which is used in CD's and DVD's.
jgez07
But blue ray can also be read in a standard dvd player... it holds the dvd version inside of it and the dvd player can read that.... and when u get a b.r. player it will play the HD version inside of it... I read it in a news release or something...
thanato
that is useful, unless you want the blu-ray version.
NewGuyRightHere
man I just saw the blue ray demo of some movies man its wonderful!!! the blue ray dvd players are like 1000 looking at the ps3 price tag its not so bad!!!

1. Blue Ray is a 25GB single layer disk, 50 Gb dual layer

2. xbox 360 does use HDdvd but it didn't come with it you have to buy a separate HDhvd reader

6. Ps2 does have dual layer capabilities (Gran turismo 4 and God of War are dual layer)

11. Blue ray disks will be blue

And "dira" the reason they are called Blue ray is because the laser used is blue, since it has a smaller wavelength it can store more data (simple explanation) than a dvd which uses a red laser which has a larger wavelength
