You need GTA to downgrade from 3.03 to 1.5.

Look here on how to do that: http://www.psp-spot.com/forums/index.php?a...s&f_id=1798

I am currently on 3.40OE A which is a good custom firmware because you can have all the custom backgrounds and icons, also you can play the latest games

2.8 can be done without gta 2.81 has to be upgraded to 3.03 and you need gta to downgrade from 3.03

*is still kinda confused*

*EDIT*

evol edo,
Well I'm confused about the fact that someone also said there is away with no GTA also I have already read through the "how to.." and I saved it to my computer I'm making sure that there is no other way before I buy GTA.

there was a link posted with a how to. what is to be confused about. just saying you are confused doesnt help. you need to say what you specifically dont understand or where you are lost so people can help. you need to upgrade to 3.03 and you need gta unpatched. until you have both of those there is nothing you can do. but seriously if you are that confused i suggest not doing it. or keep reading about it until you understand it. we dont need you coming back saying oh i bricked my psp.
