I'm still trying to figure out how to use Winrar to compress a file. Everytime I use it the file size always ends up the same using the archive function. Can someone please help?

when you go to compress it, look @ the bottom left. it should say compression method, chose best. that will give u the smallest file possible. but, just to warn you. it will not make a huge file into something really really small. it cant turn 1g in 60mb.

Also, sometimes the file can't be compressed, but in most cases it can, but not too much about 5-15%

It depends on the file type. Don't go trying to compress mp3s or jpegs because they are already compressed formats. It won't hurt, but they won't compress any smaller (well maybe a megabyte for a bunch of files).
