This is information I recieved from my EB Games Regional Manager source in:
Sony was sending out Emails to its Commercial Retailers that all new PSPs to be sent out will have 'Downgradable Prevention' built right into them. All new PSPs to be shipped out as of next week Friday, May 18th, will be a higher firmware, 4.xx (specifics were not released), but they were promised to include new security features to prevent hacks and downgrades. Apparently this is one of their first steps to start focusing on the PSP again, instead of diverting all attention to the PS3.
The new firmware will be available for download off Official, and most likely Unofficial, sites 2 days after the shipment is sent out.
This also happens to be the shipment of PSPs to be sold for the price of $169.99CAD with a Game. As of now, you can still purchase the downgradable PSPs for anywhere between $190.00-$220.00 depending on the Commercial retailer.
This news is obviously coming from a Canadian EB Games, based in Calgary, so this might not be effective for those in Europe, but possibly for the USA. These shipments are expected to be North American wide.
So, check your PSP firmware and downgrade compatability before purchasing.

Wow this really sucks, I need a new PSP but if it's undowngradable then there's not point. But give haXors time they said the same thing about TA-082 and 086 at first and look at them now.

True, I just want to see what this new enhanced security features will detail. If it is something that is absolutley hack proof, which I kinda doubt, then Im assuming the PSP market might go down for a bit. Sony will need to come out with some GREAT cames to go along with the new Anit-Hack PSP.
PS. Some EB Games offer to downgrade your PSP right as you buy it =P
They even said they will pay for the replacement if they mess it up. Not sure if this works with the new shipment though Lol

Bad rumor.. It may or may not.. But as long as there are people that want there FW downgraded, they'd find a way to.

Yeh, Im assuming in time they will be able to crack the new firmware, but until they get it downpack, I dont suggest anyone tries. You will probably end up going through alot of PSPs before you complete the task, as it has basically 'insta-brick' technology.
I know that until I see a good number of 4.xx Custom Firmware downgrades, I wont be buying nor trying to hack one, on my own budget that is =P
Plus, I think if these firmwares hit the market hard, it will give the hackers time to hack all the 3.xx firmwares, and then by the time they are done there, they will know enough to knock Sony down by hitting up the 4.xx
It will happen all in good time.

Any computer can be hacked and cracked! It won't take long for the Teams to have it beat!

This is kinda funny, psp hackers like Dark Alex, Fanjita, Ahmen, with his Irshell and many others have opened the full capabilities of the psp, which sony have not, yet sony just want total control of what is on your psp. don't worry, nothing is completely hackproof, if it can be put on , it can be taken off or exploited. In time, it could take 5 minuites, it could take 5 months, only time will tell.

Well look at it this way. Sony can't do jack shit against hackers cause their are smart hackers out there (Like DAX) that are tackling everything Sony throws at us. I remember back when we took MONTHS just to get an exploiter for 2.60 (Made by former modder Fanjita) and soon enough we got a downgrader. Then when Sony started popping out firmware like ejaculations we just kept hammering at them and hammering at them. If Sony really thinks that they have the power to stop hacking then they are the first, cause not one single computer or piece of computer technology hasn't been hacked. EVER.

Seems like anytime a company says "our next version will be hacker-proof" it is the fastest to be hacked. It's like issuing a challenge to the hackers, and hackers do love a challenge

people are GOING to downgrade....that's all there is to it....
I mean, no collection of lines of code is perfect....so it IS hackable, it's only a matter of time.
I think they're saying it won't be downgradeable just as a PR move.

Sony released an Email, I didnt get to read it yet, but I was told the main idea behind it
The '4.xx' Firmware wont be seen anytime soon between the next 6-8 weeks atleast. Sony stated retailers can buy the new PSPs in 4 weeks time, but wont get delivered for another 4 weeks after that.
This is actually the 2nd time Sony has delayed the new Firmware.
