Doubt
So tomorrow I plan to borrow a USB cable from a friend and attempt to downgrade my PSP so I can play roms.

Now I've searched a lot of downgrading stuff but it all seems a bit confusing with all the different applications and the risk of screwing up your psp.

Ok. So I have version 2.71

I'm wondering would someone be able to link me to the right applications and how to use them.
Is it a common thing, bricking your psp?

Well all help is appreciated. Thanks.

i will only be able to help you if you have an unpatched version of GTA:LCS. to tell if it is unpatched simply check what firmware update is on the UMD.

2.00 = unpatched
2.60 = patched

if you havent got an unpatched GTA:LCS somebody else will be able to help you biggrin.gif

That's good, make sure you don't upgrade.
And you don't need an unpatched GTA:LCS UMD either.

I haven't used it personally but many people have used this process (by Chilly Willy) successfully:

I would normally recommend upgrading to 2.80 first, but since there are good downgraders for 2.71 as well, you can go straight from 2.71 to 1.50.

Once you have downgraded to 1.50, all you need to do is install 3.03 OE-C (custom firmware): http://www.psp-spot.com/forums/303OE-C-eas...ler-t33797.html
There are newer versions (up to 3.40 OE-A) which you could go to, but 3.03 OE-C seems to be the most stable.

Not really, most of the time it only happens if someone does not:
- read the instructions
- have a fully charged battery and power cable plugged in

I understood that, which is why I didn't quote your post.
I just wanted to make sure he didn't upgrade to 3.03, in case he doesn't have an unpatched GTA:LCS UMD.
