The 360's crappy hardware is gimping GTA IV

Okay, so maybe it's not as harsh as the headline sounds - but Rockstar recently acknowledged in an interview with OPM UK that the lack of a hard drive in the 'cheap' 360 SKU combined with the lack of Blu-Ray is limiting what the team can do in GTA IV. Unfortunately, this effects the PlayStation 3 version as well, since they are aiming at both versions of the game being identical.

This is one of the first times I've seen a company acknowledge that making a multi-platform game ends up limiting what they can do. Normally that sort of talk is up to fanboys - not Vice Presidents of major companies. It's a shame to hear that the 360 is limiting what GTA IV can become, but hopefully Rockstar takes a queue from The Darkness and adds-on a bunch of content to fully utilize the space that Blu-Ray offers.

Oh, and to be fair - Rockstar also said that the PS3 offers it's own challenges that they have to overcome (cough, the Cell BE, cough).

It's a shame really!
If only $ony could pay Rockstar to make a GTA game exclusively for the PS3 and utilize the power and space the PS3 has to offer!
We all know that GTA: IV will be one kick ass game though!!

Maybe next time around, since at the time when it was being developed the ps3 wasnt out yet. Hopefully after this year when its in full swing we might start seeing more exclusives.

True True!
But is their money in making exclusives for the home consoles now? If your a developer that makes titles for both systems, would you just make a game utilizing the power of the Xbox and there HD-DVD and just port it over to the PS3? What about the Wii?
If you think about it, Rockstar could make a GTA game using the full capacity of the PS3 and its blue-ray disc, that in turn might not be able to be ported over to the Xbox because of its size! This in turn would affect the amount of money they make from one game, were as they could make more money having a GTA game on both systems (GTA: IV)! or any title for that matter!
I don't know about you but I know I’m no expert when it come's to this sort of stuff but I know that all company’s are in it to make a buck and if they think they won't make money on a product they won't touch it!
