Hi I know this will get asked all the time but I am having real problems finding a difinitive answer.

Can I downgrade my PSP from 2.6 to 1.5 so I can run ISO's?

Are there any walkthroughs or any real noob step by step help?

Thanks - sorry again for what I know will be a report.

if you have an unpatched gta lcs there is a really easy downgrader that walks you through step by step. while running it.

This isn't quite "real noob" but it gives an outline: http://www.psp-spot.com/forums/index.php?s...mp;#entry208480
Then you can ask any questions about it here.

For 2.80 you don't need an unpatched GTA:LCS UMD, and the method which uses it (the 2.50/2.60 downgrader) is not as safe as the improved 2.80 downgrader.

the 3.03 downgrader is one of the safest downgraders around!

who says its not as safe. whats the difference other than what you use to launch the downdater, and if its so much safer why have multiple downgrade guides why not just have everyone update to 2.8 then use the 2.8 downgrader like you suggest to everyone? ive used the 2.6 it and its easy as it walks you through every single step. both 2.71 and 2.8 you can do without gta:lcs. 2.71 also has been said to be one of the best to downgrade from. in fact there are multiple ways to downgrade 2.71. as i have not done a 2.8 i wouldnt know the difference but i dont see what would make it so much safer.

would you say the best bet is to go loan GTA from blockbuster and then downgrade using that?

if you dont have it id just do the 2.8 update, as there is not guarantee the one you rent from blockbuster will be unpatched, then use the 2.8 downgrader as adw suggested. i just used the 2.6 downgrader doing a couple of my friends because i purposely bought an unpatched gta lcs, just in case i needed it, and its come in handy. just go to the link adw posted. ive also pmed you with a different link to some guides. just for reference
living199
well you could always rent it from blockbuster then if it is unpatched update to 3.03 and if it isnt use another downgrader

Use the downgraders from this thread.

http://www.psp-spot.com/forums/TA-082-86-1...ner-t38552.html

The original (and easy install) downgraders corrupt more IdStorage keys in the PSP that needed on TA-082 and TA-086 PSPs. This can lead to issues like the PSP not running with less than a 12% charge on the battery, or USBHOSTFS not working. Even the much vaunted 3.03 downgrader corrupt two more keys than needed and is subject to at least a couple issues as a result.

NOTE: It's not the downgrader that causes the trouble, it's the idstorage changer that comes with the downgrader that is used on the 82/86 PSP. This idstorage changer is built into the 3.03 DG, and is a separate app on the 2.71 and 2.80 DGs. So if you have a TA-079 or TA-081, any of the DGs are fine and won't cause any trouble. You only have to worry about these issue with the keys if you have a TA-082 or TA-086.

It's in the release notes of the improved 2.80 downgrader: http://www.noobz.eu/joomla/index.php?optio...35&Itemid=1
The 2.50/2.60 one is very old and probably (I don't have the code so I can't be sure) does not have as many safety checks.
The newest 2.71 downgrader is probably just as good, but I've tested everything in the mini-guide which I linked to for the 2.80 process, and it doesn't make much difference to go to 2.80 or to 2.71.
The 3.03 downgrader is also good, but as you know, needs an unpatched GTA:LCS UMD, which is sometimes not easy to get hold of.

all that noobz release page said is its a safer version of the 2.8 downgrader. that had nothing to do with the 2.5/2.6 only problem with 2.6 like 3.03 is you need gta lcs. thats why i said if he didnt have it i told him to just do the 2.71 or 2.8 upgrade/dowgrade and the 2.8 needed more safety checks because the 2.71 and 2.8 had more ta-082/86 that they had to deal with and that was causing problems. and i may be wrong but i dont think there were any 2.6 ta-082s i believe they showed up during 2.71 but please correct me if im wrong.

Yeah, I think 2.6 was the crossover point - 2.5's were all TA-081 or older, and 2.71's were all TA-082 or newer. I've seen a few folks like me - a TA-082 with 2.60, but 2.71 was more prevalent. It's funny - I wound up updating to 2.71 anyway so that I could downgrade to 1.5. biggrin.gif The corruption of the idstorage by the original 2.71 downgrader was what got me into PSP development. After doing a few things, I got hooked. The PSP is just so much fun to program for. cool.gif

I've read thru pages of google and psp-spot info on how to best downgrade a PSP 2.5 to 1.5. It looks like I should upgrade to 2.8 first (so that I don't have to get Grand Theft Auto: LCS"), then downgrade to 1.5, then upgrade to whatever "OE" version I want.

First, a background...this is for a friend's niece. The niece is handicap, she enjoys playing her PSP, I'd like to help her get the most enjoyment out of her PSP. Her PSP was bought from Asia, when I turn it on, I do not see any Asian characters whatsoever, in fact, I couldn't even tell whether her PSP is the same as my U.S. PSP. When I went to the 2.8 firmware update site: http://www.psp-hacks.com/category/49, I see a bunch of 2.8 firmware, which one should I choose? They will be going back to Asia in a couple of weeks. I just want to make sure her niece doesn't end up with a "bricked" PSP. Her PSP's got "PSP1004" below the white barcode which tells me it's a "Europe, Middle East & Africa" PSP according to http://www.pspbrew.com/wiki/index.php/Basic_Hardware

Any help is appreciated! Thank you.

I thought that they were all the same. (but if anyone knows better please correct me)
So I would just use the US one (seeing as you are going to downgrade it anyway).
evol edo
yes 2.71 or 2.8 you can do without gta lcs but since there is a 2.8 guide linked already id just do that one. and according to the hardware link my barcode says mine is from hk/singapore and it didnt make a difference.
