Gran Turismo 5 confirmed to have no damage to vehicles?

We say confirmed with a question mark because the debate is still up in the air, but apparently there was a little scuffle between a group of message board visitors and a Gran Turismo development staff member regaring the issue of damage to the licensed cars. The staff member worked on Gran Turismo HD and is hard at work on Gran Turismo 5, which is awesome. But here are a few quotes from the guy worth scratching our chins over:

* "...We're not ready to implement damage until they can be shown in a truly authentic way (which is extremely hard work if you think about it)."
* Damage in Gran Turismo would make the franchise unstoppable, don't you think? He responds: "No I mean, really, really, really hard work... to the extent of creating another game, almost. From our standards, what other games are doing is "simplified damage". You know how [anal] we are when making our games... we would want to simulate every single dent differently."

Not sure why they bleeped out anal -- it's a perfectly appropriate word, because Polyphony Digital really does get down to the most painstaking detail when crafting these games. So what's this sound like to you? The staff member who said this checks out. He's completely legit (but we can't reveal the obvious). We're saying there won't be damage this time. Maybe for GT5 A-Spec or something. I dunno. I won't mind. Besides, you're not supposed to crash in the driving sim games.

Well i dont mind if theres no damage. all of the gt games have been great without damage. im sure this will be a winner. and that lotus elise looks great!

Hmm maybe you could have the option of having paint scratches not like full body parts coming off? Iv played a game like that before.

Anyway this game looks good and i love that hi-res picture of the lotus

This is a little off topic, but I'm really considering buying a Lotus Exige. Its really not that expensive and nobody around here has one at all. And its fast.

I like GT with out the damage, All the nice cars in your garage, shiny and what not.

If you had damage you would need to buy cars all the time or have it fixed all the time, when you are racing you can't do much if an AI car bumps you or you bump them (Rubbing is racing Harry).

Being a REAL DRIVING SIM, the damage to the car would be bad in terms of completing a race as the speed you are racing is about 100km/h when you first start to play the game this obviously increases as you progress, a good bump from one car could potently damage the mechanics of the car depending were your hit, This would mean spending your hard earned cash on repairing your car instead of upgrading it or not finishing the race at all and winning no cash
.
I think over time this would be a pain in the ass, as most of the GT fans I think would rather modify the car's body in some way or hot up the motor.
Imagine having won a car like a Holden Monaro (Pontiac GTO) and then taking it to the shop and having a fully blown super charged donk dropped in it with a bug catcher sticking out the hood?
That I would like to see!!!!!

If I were to stack it then on some stupid corner because I got cut up by the AI car I would be pissed off big time!
No Damage gets my vote!

Hyped that it doesnt have damage? I mean since thats what this topic was really about.

wait i thought the latest gran turism would be called gran turismo hd.
they should add damage models even if it doesnt affect the cars performance.
quickett
I hope it includes damage, I mean if they are going for realism you would think it has to include damage modeling. If you collide in a real car there is going to be damage. I think there are 3 things GT needs: 1. ONLINE 2. Smarter AI 3. Damage modeling
Just my humble opinion
