Custom firmware is very safe, as long as you follow the instructions and make sure you have a full battery and the power cable plugged in when flashing, you should be fine.

In fact, you can even use an easy installer to make it easier; here's one for 3.03 OE-C: http://www.psp-spot.com/forums/303OE-C-eas...ler-t33797.html

I would recommend that you install 3.03 OE-C (using the above link), but if you still don't want to risk it, then the only Internet Browser I know of is the one in Wipeout Pure. But I don't really know how well that works.

get custom firmware it made me love my psp
Jaydecay
I'm still new at this, so when you have 3.03 OE-C, can you play emulators and psx games?
phlak
Yes Jay that is correct.

And flettz your crazy not to go to custom firmware. And the link that ADW gave you is working flawless, its been used here thousands of times I am sure! I use it once a week helping others.
Jaydecay
Yeah dude, the link that ADW posted I just downloaded. I works great and it only took about 2 seconds to set it up.

And also, How can you put emulators on your psp? All I can find how to do on the tutorials is to put a psx game on it.

Get the emulator, copy the two homebrew folders to "ms:\PSP\GAME150\", copy some ROMs to your memory stick, then run the emulator.

As far as PSX games go, if it is an ISO, then it goes in the ISO folder at the root of your MS. If it's an eboot, put it in a folder within either GAME [if you're running 1.5 homebrew kernal] or, GAME150 if you're running 3.03 homebrew kernal.

Then, you'll be able to boot it from the MS option under your GAME menu on the XMB.

A custom FW is one of the easiest and safest things to install. There is a risk of bricking but as another member said just make sure the battery is full, you have the charger pluged in, and that you have read the instructions. Plus not only does it give you the things you love about 1.5 homebrew, ISO, emulation (as well as the features Sony has added since then BUT WITHOUT THE SECURITY ^w^) But this also gives you the godsend of recovery mode the ability to restore a semi-bricked PSP to full health. So all and all for such a minimal risk it is well worth it!

iR Shell v3.1 has a folder which goes in "ms:\PSP\GAME\" (irshell271) and two folders which go in "ms:\PSP\GAME150\" (irshell150 and irshell150%).
Then you also need to put "IRSHELL" in the root ("ms:\").
