Memory sticks work with all firmwares whether or not they are new or old.
If you are having problems with it you might want to check if its real and if it isnt then ask for a refund from where ever you bought it.

Very true. If you got it of eBay you may have a Toshiba "Sony" stick lol.
Just try other memory sticks and see if thye have the same issue as your one.

What's not working with the "old" memory stick you're talking about with your newer firmware?

different mem sticks have problems with firmwares coz of there compatibilities, so not all are supported especially fake ones, dont ever get those.

When somebody refers to a 'fake' card, they're saying that it was mass manufactured by a secondary company like TOSHIBA. You can find out if it is fake by accessing it with your custom firmware.
Press TRIANGLE when highliting your MS icon in your XMB. If you're running custom firmware, select the INFORMATION option, and chech if MagicGate is supported.
If it is unsupported on that card, it is not a legitimate SONY MS.
Some 'fake' cards will work, regardless. That's the luck of the draw when buying from eBay.
