As the title says, I'm thinking of buying a PSP soon. I wondered if anyone here could give me some pros and cons, and maybe some advice as the best place to buy one from (ex: Gamestop, ebay, etc.)

As I was looking around the site I saw something about converting PSOne games to PSP, which would definitely sell me on buying the PSP, but I was hoping someone could explain the details of doing this for me. Is it harmful to the system? How do I do it?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. biggrin.gif

well you can do a lot of things other than playing games with the psp... you can also play movies, listen to mp3s & browse the net... also don't upgrade to the latest firmware if you would like to play ps1 games without buying a ps3... you can learn & discover more here at the forums...

So if I were to buy a brand new PSP, would if have the lastest firmware? Meaning I would do better to buy a used one?

A new PSP would have a relatively new firmware, depends on the retailer.
If you buy a used one you can make sure beforehand that it's downgradable, yes.

my friend just bought a psp and it came with the 3.03 fw

guess what was the first thing he did with his psp......

So if I went to Gamestop and bought a used PSP, how would I check before buying it that it had a firmware of 3.03 or lower?

You guys rock for helping me out, by the way.

on the main menu, go to the far left and click on system information then there's another thing u gotta click. it tells u what firmware ur PSP has, ur nickname and some other stuff. forgot what it was called though >_<

That's the problem now days you nether know what the firmware is always ask if possible if you can see the firmware.

Yeh, I was going to buy another PSP to have downgraded as well, but Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Future Shop and most other places wont let you check the FW's.
Even Pawnshops or Small Gaming Shops wouldnt let me check the FW's because it is now 'Against Policy' due to the Homebrew scene.
I think thats a load of crap because it is virtually impossible to buy a Downgraded/Downgradable PSP Commercially.

anywhere to get your psp is good but the best color i think is black lol people said white is hot but w./e lol i like black BLACK PSP PRIDE
spaz913
Well if they won't let me see the firmware before I buy a used one then I'll buy it, check the firmware, and return it saying I was "not satisfied" to get my money back I guess. Thanks for all the help.

PROS: Custom firmware is so fun to tinker with. Changing icons, running interesting homebrew Apps & games.

CONS: BRICKS! Expensive bricks at that too. And the battery life could be better.

(my 2 cents)

if you want to know where you should buy a psp, you should buy one from a friend of yours that hasnt used his in a long time, that would be the wisest decision, as the ones from gamestop are probably hard to downgrade and the ones from ebay could possible be a brick or scam. so i would go with a friends psp, or just get a used on. you should also get a 4gb memory card by sandisk or someone else than sony.

I would recommoned you to go on ebay and search for a PSP Ver. 1.5 or 3.03 OE A/B/C in a 1.5 you need to have programs like Devhook to play the newer games. But i dont known how the 3.03 OE A/b/c works so i cant explain..........Maybe i'll upgrade to a 3.03 OE C and try it out.
