...what is the newest firmware I can run and still play nintendo and super nintendo emulators?? I'm currently using 1.5 and I don't have a large enough memory stick to use any of the custom firmwares.

Custom firmware, google and tutorial about how to install custom firmware, it wil let u play those emulators still

Jus get 3.03 oe-c i play nes and snes on there and its pretty good and its full customizable

You should invest a bigger capacity card if you want to upgrade to the custom firmwares as you need bigger storage for games as well. Therefore, you'll be able to have your emulators and PSX games as well.
