Full Version: Firmware Upgrade Path from 2.6 -- Advice Needed

I've had a psp lying around collecting dust for the past year. I didn't realize all the nice features that can be unlocked with firmware 3.10OE-A and I would like to upgrade.

Now, I understand that I cannot do this directly from the firmware 2.6 that is currently on my psp.

My plan is as follows:

1. Upgrade to 2.8

2. Downgrade from 2.8 to 1.5 via this guide -- Universal PSP downgrade guide

3. Flash from 1.5 to 3.10OE-A

Is this feasible? I don't really see why not--but I'm a noob to all this open end psp software and I really don't want to brick my psp.

So, is this the path to take or is there an easier (or better) way?

there might be a faster way(im not realy sure) but it already looks like u got a pretty good plan.So just find tutorials and follow them carefuly

It would prob. be better to go to 2.71 then 1.5, this is more common, does not really matter but it is more common and easier to keep track of when reading the tutorials. Follow the directions to the letter ( they r pretty simple) make sure your battery is at 75% or more and u should be golden.

Yes, it's feasible, and it's a good a way as any to get to 3.03 OE-C.

Some general advice:
- read the instructions very carefully
- keep the power cable plugged in and the battery charged fully
- make sure you run the idstoragechanger if you have a TA-082/TA-086

What are these numbers exactly?

I've seen them mentioned on other forums--but I have no idea how to find out if my psp is one of these versions.

Thanks.

Here the tips:
Open the UMD drive and look at the PCB, you can clearly read a copper colored lettering that reads "IC1003" on a TA-O82 version model. Other version don't have any lettering printed on that area.

When downgrading your PSP, be sure you check your PSP whether it's a TA-082 model coz' it needs a lil' different downgrading procedure than the non TA-082. Just do a search in here and I'm sure you;ll find the tutorial and downgrader as well but "READS THE INSTRUCTION CAREFULLY" as a slight mistake will brick your PSP.

Ok, just got home from work and checked it. I check some other formus (Right here) and I do not have the TA-082. My numbers are on the wrong side and I think they are "IC6001", but I'm not sure--they are very hard to read.

I guess that means I'm good to go.

I did some more research and Sledge is right, it will be easier for me to got from 2.6 > 2.71 > 1.5 > 3.10OE-A.

Thanks for all the help. Once I get my USB cable and new memory card, I'll post how the flash went.

***UPDATE***

Thanks to all the guides and user support on these forums I was easily able to update my psp firmware to 3.10 OE-A2.

My route went like this:

1. Update from 2.6 to 2.71.

2. Downgrade from 2.71 to 1.5.

3. Update from 1.5 to 3.10 OE-A.

Everything went off without a hitch. Thanks everyone! Now I can actually get some use out of my psp!

Also, having a 4GB MS is great. laugh.gif
