Full Version: IRSHELL 3.1 Question

Hello guys.

Here is my question concerning IRSHELL.

How do i know what is the best mode to use for IRSHELL??
As you all know, you can boot IRshell in mode 1.5 (mostely the blue icon) or you can boot it in 2.71(mostely red icon).

What is the difference between both mode?? I'am asking this cause some function work fine in mode 1.5 and the same functions doesn't work in mode 2.71.
That is giving me trouble...

Also, what is the kernel mode in the PSP?? Currently i use a 3.10 OA'. Via recovery option, i see the current kernel is set to 3.10. I have the choice to set it to 1.5. I think a correct version of the kernel is needed by Irshell to work correctly.
Can you confirm this? What is the difference between a kernel version and the firmware version? What is the benefit of changing the kernel version of the CFW 3.10?

Thanks a lot

OK, that's a lot of questions.

I always run iR Shell v3.1 via the Red icon.
I have the "irshell271" folder in "GAME" and the "irshell150" and "irshell150%" folder in "GAME150".
All the features work fine for me using this configuration (as outlined in the Readme).

The kernel version in the recovery mode simply sets which kernel should be used when homebrew is in the "GAME" folder.
"ms:\PSP\GAME150\" always uses the 1.50 kernel (which most homebrew requires) and the "ms:\PSP\GAME\" folder is set by the recovery mode; set to 3.10 by default. "ms:\PSP\GAME310\" will always use the 3.10 kernel (that not much homebrew uses but has more features possible).

Hello adw888

Thanks a lot for your prompt answers.
I used the same installation as yours. But, the wifi feature is not working with irshell 1.5 which is the red icon for me

Is it the same in yours?
Can you use nethost0 toggle or even nethostfs browsing?

Thanks again

Hi holodad.

Yes, the red icon is 1.50, and I do use this icon all the time.

Can you use nethost0 toggle or even nethostfs browsing?

nethost0 toggle works fine, and I can browse the folder on my PC.

What problem are you getting?

A few things you could have a look at:
- have you set up a connection in the PSP XMB?
- is the Wifi switch ON?
- have you set up the PC-side? (you need something which runs nethostfs, like PSP Host or PSP Extreme Link)

Hello Thanks Again for your answers.

I think you misunderstood.
When i boot in mode 1.5 (the red icon), I can use Wifi. The Wifi switch is on otherwise, you get a message to turn on the wifi switch...
When i try to connect on my pc, i see the green light of the wifi switch, i see the ip adresse of my psp in nethostfs.exe who's installed on my laptop.

When i use mode 2.71, the blue icon, The wifi doesn't work.

When i go into nethost0 on my MS, nothing appears... The folder is empty. Funny..

When i boot in mode 1.5, the same config works fine. So it's definitely a software problem in mode 2.71....
note: I use Irshell 3.1 on a 3.10 OA'.

I installed irshell like this:

1. Copy /IRSHELL folder to your ms.
2.
- Copy /PSP/GAME/irshell271 to ms0:/PSP/GAME/irshell271
- Copy /PSP/GAME/irshell150 to ms0:/PSP/GAME150/irshell150
- Copy /PSP/GAME/irshell150% to ms0:/PSP/GAME150/irshell150%

If you fallow the same configuration as me, you will definitely get the same problem. I tried this on many psp.
With IRshell 3.1 on 3.10OE A2, in mode 2.71, the wifi doesn't work.I'am telling you this cause, i'am trying to do wifi iso streaming.
As so far, this is my results:
In mode 1.5, the wifi via nethostfs.Exe works fine, but the stonecut iso plugin does not work!!
In mode 2.71, the wifi doesn't work but the iso plugin works fine!

I'am finding the way to perform iso streaming in fw 3.10 OE A' cause actually, the only way to do this is by using a FW 2.71 SEC with irshell 3.1

Thanks again!

this is offtopic sort of to the relevant question but i have 3.03oec and was wondering since you seem to know irshell so well, is the mp3 feature functional with my fw, because evertime i tried to launch the xmb to use the mp3 as a background sound to my games it wouldnt load...is there a solution to this?

Hello Foreverscorned

I know this is offtopic. I won't go further in this subject. I just need to get more feedback from you all concerning IRSHELL with FW 3.10 OE.

Concerning the mp3 feature, I admit that i don't use this a lot but I just tried it on my PSP and it works fine for me.

First of all, Can you tell me if you can launch iso from Irshell? If yes, copy all your mp3 files in folder PSP/MUSIC. Then, launch a mp3 file via irshell explorer. Go into PSP/music and press X. You will hear your music playing...
While the song is playing, go into folder ms0:>ISO and choose your iso and press X
The iso will launch while the music will still be playing.
I also used the playlist feature, so my mp3 selection will be loaded while the iso is playing. To do this,
Go into folder PSP/MUSIC and highlight multiple mp3 files by clicking 'CIRCLE'
Then, press 'CROSS' after you've finished chosen your mp3 lists then, launch your iso as explained before.
All the songs highlighted will be playing while you will be enjoying your game.

Is it the way you tried it? If no, try this.

if all this doesn't work for you, please tell me if you can launch a mp3 file independently from a iso file.
In other words, can you play a mp3 file and can you lauch a iso file with your irshell?

I use a FW 3.10 OA with IRSHELL 3.10 OEA2.

Let me know

OK, I think I understand now holodad.

You are trying to run ISOs from your PC via iR Shell and nethostfs, right?
I don't think that this is possible, because iR Shell cannot run ISOs; at most all it can do is launch DevHook to run an ISO.

You need a plugin for 3.10 OE to run ISOs via Wifi, the closest I could find is this for running ISOs via USB: http://www.psp-hacks.com/2007/02/12/usb-mo...-fw-303-310-oe/

thx man id never thought of running just the mp3 then the iso from irshell, i will try this tonight, i can get mp3 to launch and ive gotten an iso to load as well so its just a matter of arranging the process i suppose. I was trying to launch the regular xmb and then loading isos from there and cutting back to irshell and launching the mp3. Thx alot man will try tonight and get back to you. You are very helpful sir. smile.gif

Hi adw888,

Thanks for reading my post.

You are right. I'am working on this. Trying to launch ISO via Wifi on 3.10 OE... It's definitely possible to launch iso via IRSHELL 3.1. The latest version of iso stonecut plugin works fine.
Simply install IRSHELL 3.1 like this:
1. Copy /IRSHELL folder to your ms.
2.
- Copy /PSP/GAME/irshell271 to ms0:/PSP/GAME/irshell271
- Copy /PSP/GAME/irshell150 to ms0:/PSP/GAME150/irshell150
- Copy /PSP/GAME/irshell150% to ms0:/PSP/GAME150/irshell150%

At this point, you will have two icons to lauch IRSHELL. Use the light blue one. It boot's into 2.71 mode.
In this mode, IRSHELL ISO plugin works.
So you can run iso/cso without devhook. Via the irshell Explorer, i browse into the ISO folder and press X.
The iso get's started.

But, unfortunately, the wifi nethostfs doens't work in mode 2.71. It works fine in mode 1.5 which is the red icon when lauching IRshell. But in mode 1.5, the iso plugin doesn't work.
So ,i'am finding why??

And finally, i tested it. Its possible to launch iso via Wifi with Irshell only if using a FW 2.71 SEC.
I' tested it. If you install 2.71 SEC and use Irshell, you can stream iso over a Wifi connection.
Check this if you didn't before:
http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php...;mforum=irshell

And you are right, the best is to use a USB link but i hope to make it work via Wifi

I'am trying to make it work on a 3.10 OA. I'am sure it"s a small thing.

Thanks again

Hello Foreverscorned

Just let me know. Hope it will work fine for you

Hello Guys,

For you information. It's definitely possible to launch iso over Wifi in CFW 3.03 or 3.10

However, the game takes long to charge and not all the games work. Some of the game work fine but other doesn't work at all...
I'am triyng to understand why??

If you want' to do this on a 3.03 OE or 3.10 OE, just install Irshell 3.0 not Irshell 3.1. It will not work with Irshell 3.1.
Install "nethostfs.exe" or "psphost 2.0" on the PC .
Boot in mode 2.71 of irshell that's the blue icon in the XMB ms launcher.
At this stade, the iso/cso plugin works fine for local, usb, wifi access.
So, after this, go into configurator and set your wifi connexion like this:

non msmedia access enable
redirect app view to host enable
redirect keypad to host disable
xmb network for nethost (name of your wifi connexion )
nethost ipname (ip @ of the pc)
nethost ip adhoc (no need)
nethost port (7513)
nethost password ( no need to set )
allow adhoc pc connection for homebrew disable

Then, launch "nethost0:" or "toggle nethostfs" from irshell.
This last choice will emulate a new ms that's quicker that using nethostf0:

And this point, launching your game via wifi will work. Don't forget to launch psphost on the pc side.
Using psphost on the pc is better cause the installation of this soft, will install the psp drivers and will give you also the usbhost option.

You will be able to use USB to play your games, just launch "toggle USB" from irshell.

Notice the long time for charging the little amount of games who works via Wifi.
If you have any idea like a cache system or if you understand why the other games doesn't work, let it know.
Thanks again
