So I have been wondering this for a little bit now. unsure.gif It seems like the psp could have the capability of becoming some sort of phone(using wifi and a headset). I am just asking if anyone else thinks this could become possible. I think it would be quite amazing if it happend. Anyway if anyone has any insight on this let me know. mellow.gif

From what I've seen and read, there is a code or PRX for VoIP functionality in the 3.10 firmware (possibly 3.11 also). I would give a link to this, but I don't wanna get into trouble. If you like, PM me and I can give you the link. On that site, there is a picture of the 3.10 Firmware dump where it has a PRX referring to Skype. Since there were camera, GPS, and POPs PRXs in earlier versions of firmware before they became funtional, it leads some to believe that it'll happen.

As for the homebrew potential of that, I dunno. I'm new to the PSP world and definately new to homebrew. However, if that is something you can work with or it helps ya out, then you're welcome. smile.gif

Well, you can "make a call" on any psp FW version using Aol Instant Messenger. (Whether you logon using aimonpsp.com or the homebrew app afkim) all you have to do is add the screen name "myiprelay" to ur buddy list. You will be connected to an operator, and whatever you type, tehy must say. Whatever the reciever says, they operator will type back to you.

that would be insanely great...wasnt sky teaming up with sony to add a sort of statellite setup for the psp to get tv on to it?

with the wifi and the headset it couldnt be possible because u need a phone provider like verizon

Actually, it shouldn't be that difficult since the PSP is set up to communicate in terms of packet data for game play and converting that to, say, Skype would not be that difficult. For instance, the Nextel network operates in the exact same manner using packet data which is VoIP. And, if you have your account set up properly, you can use your phone as a modem for your laptop.

So I think it's definitely possible.

I think it would be great but it would be a bit big? also i dont really like the idea of it really as a psp is for games mainly

Yeah it sounds like Skype is going to be on the next firmware, just not sure if its going to be usable by then. Getting Sype on it would be easy, but if I remember right Skype is not free anymore as of December?

Well, it was really for games at first but was built with a whole lot more in mind. As for the size, a headset would work out just fine.

And think about this, if it can do phone options, then it could also connect to the internet via other routes such as an external adapter like a Sprint card or something along those lines. A truly wireless gaming platform. Try and tell me they don't have that planned...
iluvme
that would be the sickest thing ever..

Boy Palos
a VOIP technology can make it possible... laugh.gif
looks like this feature is not too far away.... but I wonder how we will classify the PSP by then...

a console? a handphone? a remote control? ohmy.gif

I think it would be a little unneccessary. I dont carry my psp everywhere and even then you couldnt play games and use the phone at the same time.

oh.. thats a lot interesting, having a phone on the psp, not bad, not bad..
