I'm playing around with designing for the PSP and was trying out some graphics so I thought I'd post 'em here. Let me know what you think. Not on the level of some of the designers but I'm still experimenting.

I did all the work on this image from modifying the shadow for the gun effect to creation of the wallpaper.

I borrowed the image from a sidekick ad and stuck in the blue area. I'm going to refine that bit so it looks more natural but I just loved the look of the image...

Sure. I do a lot of design work so I have it pretty well practiced.

You can see the gun one in it's full form (without the cracks) at my deviantart account

Also, checkout more of my work at kylebellamy.com

Thought of another way to prove it... give me a request for a wallpaper and I'll do it up.

[edit] Found the original of the gun one on my drive. Incidentally the title of the work is called "Building An Angel Pt. 2"

Here's another called "The Moody Forest" that I shot of a swamp near Ft. Meade in Maryland. Had to edit out some telephone wires and then a ton of modding in photoshop to get the bent metal look of the thing.

Here is another I've been working on for about 2 hours just tweaking and playing to get things where I wanted them. I can't put it on my PSP to see how it looks so if one of you would be so kind...

And yes, this is my work too.

Here's another: Grunge Style

I could do this all day and well into the night. Making backgrounds is definitely a good way to pass time. lol

Not bad. The thing I dont like the most is I think you are making the crossbars too wide. The icons arent that big, so I think its a lot of extra space for it thats unneeded.

Thanks!

My thinking on the crossbars is that I wanted all of the icons that are scrolling to be in the bars. Just my own personal way of doing them, I guess.

You can have that. I think you misunderstood. Hers a pic of my bg:

You can have the extra vertical bar, which is fine, but I think you horizontal bar is too wide. Just look at my bg, you dont need it any wider than that.

I see what your saying. Do you think it's necessary to have the bar in place for the clock/battery deal?

By the way, I put the grungy one on my PSP and I think the extra wide bar looks pretty cool there. I guess it really depends on the design as to if it is worth having.
NyghtcrawleR
I personally like the top bar so you can read things easier, doesnt necessarily have to go all the way across though. But thats just me.

I think I'll do a few without the structured aspect.
NyghtcrawleR
Yeah, thats just my preference but thats why it on my psp and not yours. Just my 2 cents thats all. I do like the grungy one the best though.

It does look really good on the PSP screen. I've noticed that when designing for the PSP, I have to remember that the colors are going to be about 15% darker than what I am seeing on my monitor. Fortunately, I've been doing graphics on Macs for years so I'm used to the PC / Mac white point temp difference so I can picture the shift in my head.

Hmmm... Ok, then. I tend to like having a background that doesn't overpower the icons.
