Why don't you try you local video game store and ask to try the game out? There is a chance you will be able to play for a few minutes to try the game out. Check with no links I know they do it there.

most local video game stores only let you try games out if they're used because customers complain.
i couldn't get it to load and i tried both the cso and 3 of the umd's.

I got this game almost as soon as it came out. It IS worth buying, it is really amazing. It does not get boring fast as there are insane amounts of weapons upgrade/mods and you can replay the game over in challenge mode with your upgraded weapons to unlock new ones. The graphics are amazing, especially when clank is flying through space fighting. Multiplayer is great, very addicting, however it only works on Devhook if you have a custom firmware. I say buy it now, and support the people who made it so we can get another great game like this.

okay, first of all...
WARNING: RATCHET & CLANK: SIZE MATTERS DOES NOT WORK ON ANY CUSTOM FIRWARE VERSION!!!!!!!
but anyway, yeah, it is so worth getting. i don't have any other ratchet & clank games, and figured that i would try one out, so i did, and i'm really happy about it. right now, it makes almost every other game on the psp look like complete and utter crap. the graphics are stunning (just like PS2, w00t!) and the voice acting is the definition of top notch. in short, you have to get this game.
the story follows Ratchet & Clank, on vacation after saving the universe, meeting a girl who gets kidnapped right in front of them. they then go to rescue her and end up saving the universe again. at least, that's all that they tell you as the summary on all those game websites. but really, the story goes deeper. a lot deeper, involving a mysterious group of small people known as the Technomites. according to review of this game, some people say that the plot get predictable, because a typical Ratchet & Clank game always has a major twist. but when the twist came, i didn't know that (at the time), and let me tell you, there are some pretty big twists.
anyway, this is a great game, and a must-have for any PSP owner with dignity.

(it's me again)
by the way, i've been playing for almost 30 hours, and am close to completing the game for the second time... and i'm still not bored, w00t! AWESOME GAME!!!!!!!
also, you're going to have to play the game over multiple times to unlock all of the unlockables.
i also forget to mention that this particular Ratchet & Clank game has the ability for you to dress Ratchet in armor; this is an essential part of the game. there are four parts to armor: helmet, body, gloves, and boots. you will find these seperately on planets as you complete more and more of the game. you can mix & match armor parts, but if you get all four parts (a full suit of armor) and equip the full suit, it gives Ratchet special abilities (for example, the Wildfire suit sets fire to enemies if you hit them with your wrench, dishing out extra damage). there are apparently 12 different suits. i have only 6, and am close to completing the game for the second time. but there are six blank rows in the armor suit menu...
also, Ratchet can compete in 8 different skyboard races, 2 of which are mandatory. these races kick a--, trust me. the skyboarding portion of the game could be a sole game in itself, and still earn a pretty high review score. yeah, they'll keep you playing...
forever...

****The game DOES work with custom firmware as long as the CPU speed is set to 266 MHZ - I use it all the time on 3.10 OE-A'. HOWEVER - INFRASTRUCTURE freezes when you select it and it only works on DEVHOOK, just to clear that up.****

the iso (or cso) works fine (single player mode; didn't try multiplayer) with 3.03 OE-C as long as the CPU is set to 266 Mhz or higher (by going into recovery mode).
