Video games aren't a success because of record-setting sales in 2006 ($13.5 billion). They're a hit because it's cool to be a gamer now says ABC News:
"Perhaps the biggest factor in the industry's success during 2006 wasn't the glossy hardware or the cutting-edge games but instead a subtle shift in the once-geeky public perception of the gamer persona. Consumers just don't feel so strange about buying or playing video games anymore."
Sure, gaming has made plenty of in-roads in the hip sector. But I doubt most gamers readily admit to being rabid fans as easily as they would admit to being a music or movie enthusiast. At least not yet.

I think a lot of it has to do with the troops sent overseas. There's nothing to do over there except watch dvd's and play video games. And pranks, but that's a different story.
When my bro came back from the desert, he was more into video games than he ever was, and said all they did was play Halo 2 and Madden.

I agree, if you're 30-something you were around when videogames took over america. They were huge..and had a huge impact on us. I was bitten by the videogame bug as a kid and have been a gamer ever since. I'm now 38 and still buy and play games. The average gamer is 30. I'm kind of leary when dating to mention my little hobby, but most women I've met are cool about it. Hell, walk into my place, there's an arcade game in the corner, a psp on the counter, and a PS2 and PS3 in the entertainment center. Okay, so I'm more hardcore than others, but it's something I do in my spare time, which I have alot of, and I enjoy it. If others don't like it, that
s their problem. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs, can I play videogames? Damn right I can.

personally, i think it's becoming more so, but it's not quite acceptable by everyone yet.
