You can use UMDGen (v4.00) to find the region by looking at the "DISC_ID" and the "Region" in the "PARAM.SFO Information" on the "UMD Properties" tab. The DISC_ID should be something like ULES00476 (PES6 EUR PAL) or UCUS98618 (Daxter USA NTSC) ; the "ULES" signifies that it is a European game and the "UCUS" an American game. I'm not sure what the other regions are, someone else can fill that in.

And I use PSP ISO Compressor for converting ISO to CSO.
However, you have to be aware that any compression (of any kind using any program) could introduce lag, even at 333 MHz.

I think SCES are still European (SCUS is American). And I'm quite sure that the PS2 is not region free.

Go for CSO (level 9) and if it lags overclock to 333 MHz.
If it still lags then just use ISO, all compression could cause some lag.

An example of what ADW888 stated:
GTA:VCS which is an ISO can be converted into CSO, using compression level 9. The advantage would be size reduction to either fit on a small capacity memory stick or just to save space. Using devhook the user can over clock their PSP's CPU (as also stated above), however as CSO is compressed it would take longer to read from the file.... the game would lag as it did for me. Nevertheless some CSO games just lag when loading or on the menus!

Yer well i want SLES not SCUS or SCES i must be special.. lol OBV NOT! but im a lil retarded......
