My UMD Drive just broke and I want to know whether I can run 2.8+ games via devhook. I wanna play MGS:portalbe ops and tony hawk project 8 on my 2.71 SE-C psp. When I load off xmb, it crashes. When I drive devhook, no umd mode, run umd, doesn't work.
Anyone know what I can do?
Thanks for the help.

DevHook requires a UMD in the drive to run ISOs.
You might be able to use 2.71SE-C/2.80/3.00 hybrid, but I've never used it and it involves flashing your firmware so I'm not sure how safe it is.

if your UMD drive is broken you have a couple of options:
1. fix it.
2. go to 2.71 se-* and use the no-umd option.

But when you use 2.71 se-b my tekken runs a lot slower than it did on devhook? Any idea how to make it faster, or use programs which would enable me to run it faster on the custom firmwire.

try going to se-c.....or maybe you should overclock your PSP and try getting a full ISO as ripping stuff out may slow down the game.

You have it backwards. Ripping stuff out speeds up the game, because there's less stuff to load.

try ripping stuff out from GTA..... it'll lag like crazy.

I did, and it made it run a whole lot faster. You're probably thinking of compressing games. For most of them, compressing doesn't make any noticable difference, but for some newer games, like GTA:VCS, it'll lag like crazy as a CSO.

yea its weird how sometimes compressing a game can slow it down. anyone know why??

because the psp uncompress the compressed games on the fly and it has to process the data.
also, I am using no umd mode, that's how i load my games. How else?
